    This Stage 1.5 Package adds the option of larger 21.5lb fuel injectors to the Stage 1 Euro HFM kit. The 21.5lb injectors (23lb at BMW's 3.5 bar) were standard on the S52 3.2-liter engines. Because that engine has found its way into many other E36s, we put this kit together to use the Euro HFM, intake, and the stock 3.2 injectors. Also, it's been necessary for some people to add more fuel to account for cleaner-burning gasoline used in the US. With the lower grade fuel, pinging, knocking, or lean conditions may be experienced with the stock 3.0 injectors. The issues people are having seem to be geography-related (California, the Northeast, etc.) but many people feel safer having a fuel 'safety net' and this Package meets their goals. We also offer a Stage 2 Package with 24lb injectors if these are still not flowing enough fuel. There is no performance gain with only adding the 21.5lb injectors.

    We use the aFe 'Euro' Intake Kit, Bosch Euro HFM, Bosch 21.5lb injectors, and a special TMS Stage 1.5 Performance Chip. The aFe intake is made with heat-blocking materials, reducing underhood emperatures and not contributing to heat soak of the air filter. The aFE intake uses an oiled cotton air filter for maximum air flow and excellent filtration.

    Our Stage 2 for the E36 M3 and MZ3 is a building block to Stages 3, 4, and 5. All of the following stages require the parts from Stage 2. In this Package we supply a aFe Euro Cold Air Intake, TMS 3.5" HFM with adapter, 24lb Bosch fuel injectors, associated installation hardware and instructions, and TMS-exclusive Stage 2 software (co-developed with Jim Conforti).

    The aFe Euro intake is designed for a 3.5" HFM and includes a heat shield to block warm air from the engine compartment. The aFe intake uses an oiled cotton air filter for maximum air flow and excellent filtration. The kit is supplied complete with heat shield, intake tube, sealing materials, hardware, and install instructions.

    The HFM is 3.5 inches in diameter - a half-inch larger than the stock HFM. We selected the HFM from the Porsche 911 (993) because of its superior metering capability over the Euro M3 or 540 HFM. This HFM comes with a custom wiring harness for a seamless install and full compatibility with the Siemens DME and Conforit software. The beauty of this HFM is that it reads airflow far more accurately than less-expensive other HFMs on the market. Imagine the data stream on a strip of tape 3 feet long. A stock or Euro/540 HFM will read that data 50 times for the length of the tape. The Porsche HFM will read the same data 300 times in that same distance. That extra metering allows us to fine-tune the software to make the engine more responsive, smoother, and produce more power!

    We found that the stock fuel injectors on the S52 engine were at their maximum capacity with the larger HFM and intake. To prevent dangerous lean conditions we spec'd out a larger set of Bosch fuel injectors (24lb/hour or 25.5lb at the BMW-spec 3.5bar of pressure). The software was recalibrated to match the larger fuel flow.

    The rest of this Package is made up of a HFM adapter to work with the stock throttle body boot (Samco silicone boot optional), installation hardware, HFM wiring harness, and installation instructions. As a Package, installation time for the typical do-it-yourselfer would be 3-4 hours.

We also supply this Package as the Stage 3+ which uses the M50 intake manifold. This provides a lot of top-end power but the expense of low-end torque.

    Stage 5 is the peak level for the naturally aspirated S52 (with the S52 intake manifold). The Stage 5 is intended for track cars only because it does away with the factory catalytic converters and includes software engineered to ignore the post-cat O2 sensors. If you're racing and want to maximize your top end power while still maintaining bottom-end torque with the S52 manifold, this is your ultimate kit.

    This is the Package that includes nearly everything: intake, HFM, injectors, cams, headers, track pipe, and software. The track pipe that we use replaces the factory catalytic converter section. It bolts onto the TMS Shorty headers and to any 'cat-back' muffler you are using (Borla, Corsa, etc). We see a big power improvement with this Track Pipe, especially in the 5000-6900 RPM range.

    The Track Pipe exhaust section removes the catalytic converters so the car will not meet federal emissions standards. This Package and the track-only parts are only sold with an emissions waiver that can be downloaded here. The power gains with this Package are huge but it is intended only for off-road and track/race cars.

    Related Upgrades -
    Underdrive Power Pulley Kit - Underdriving means each component is moving slower which requires less power. The saved horsepower is put back to the engine where it transfers to power at the wheels. Power gains are typically 10hp at the wheels.
    Exhaust - Borla or Corsa cat-back muffler for more performance, lighter weight, and a more-aggressive sound. Expect a gain of 5whp with either of these exhausts.

    Schrick Solid Lifter Conversion Kit (convert hydraulic lifters to solid lifters)   (more info)
    One major hurdle for a track-only car is the limitation of the hydraulic valve lifters in the M50, S50-US, M52, S52-US, M52TU, and M54 engines. These effectively limit your revs to 7200-7300 RPM as the valves 'float' at higher revs, leading to piston-valve contact. By converting to a machined solid lifter, and upgrading other areas of the engine, you can configure the valve train to withstand high RPM running. Not only can you tune for more power, you can help prevent damage during a mild mechanical over-rev.

    This kit includes the mechanical spacers to convert hydraulic lifter tappets to solid lifters (like that of the S54 engine). The lifter bucket remains in place with the Schrick solid tappet replacing the original. These work on all M50, M52, S50, S52 and M54 engines and were proven in normally aspirated as well as supercharged engines. A custom camshaft is required.

    Professional installation and setup is mandatory as these require complete assembly of the head, checking valve lash, then dis-assembly and machining of the Schrick tappet to spec. This kit includes enough spacers for 24 valves. We also carry individual parts, if you are looking for single pieces. This price is for a full set of 24.

    ARP Steel Block Head Stud Kit for M50/M52 & S50/S52 (US Spec)   (more info)
    Virtually every top professional BMW engine builder relies on ARP Pro Series head studs. ARP uses a premium grade 8740 alloy that is rated far superior to "aircraft" quality. Each stud is heat-treated to 200,000 psi, ensuring complete heat penetration. ARP studs are threaded after heat-treat, which gives them 1000% (that's ten times!) better fatigue strength than studs threaded prior to heat-treat. Threading the studs after heat-treating is more difficult and costly (as it's harder on tooling) but the results are well worth the effort. These simply are the best head studs we've found for the E36 6 cylinder engines, and we highly recommend them in both the racing and forced induction arena. (Due to the additional clamping force between the head and block, these are IDEAL for turbo charging and supercharging!)

    Converting from the factory BMW head bolts to head studs makes it much easier to assemble an engine, especially a racing powerplant which must be serviced frequently (and quickly!), and also ensures proper alignment of the head and gasket. Head studs also provide more accurate and consistent torque loading. Here's why: When you use bolts to secure the head, the fastener is actually being "twisted" while it's being torqued to the proper reading. Accordingly, the bolt is reacting to two different forces simultaneously. A head stud should be installed in a "relaxed" mode -- never crank it in tightly using a jammed nut. If everything is right, the stud should be installed finger tight. Then, when applying torque to the nut, the stud will stretch only on the vertical axis. An information sheet is provided with each set. Kit includes everything pictured -- 14 head bolts, washers, bolts and assembly lubricant.

    This is a common failure item which can cause a check engine light, and rough engine running on the M52/S52 engines (328, M3, 528 thru 98, Z3 2.8, & M Roadster/Coupe thru 2000).     Oil Pressure Switch (fits most BMWs)   (more info)
    Having your oil pressure light come on can mean very serious problems. Or it could just be this switch that fails several times over a car's lifespan. By no means should you ignore the warning light but replacing this sensor could be the actual culprit. The other problem with this switch is that oil can leak past its seal. With the oil under a lot of pressure at this point, the oil loss can be a serious concern. It's a simple replacement when doing most oil change work.

    Fuel Pump Upgrade for 95-99 E36 3 Series   (more info)
    In our years campaigning the E36 chassis in World Challenge, and working on various other street and club racing cars we found the later built E36 cars are much more prone to fuel starvation then the cars manufactured before January, 1995. This is caused by a less efficient siphon pick up tube in the driver’s side sending unit. During hard cornering this will cause the car to temporarily run out of fuel which can cause engine damage or cause the car to become unsettled at an inopportune time. With the later fuel pump sending units you can start having fuel starvation as early as 3/8 of a tank of gas where with the earlier sending units this condition does not start to occur until below ¼ tank. This kit is a great inexpensive way to get more fuel out of your tank. For endurance racing there are other more expensive ways to get all the fuel out of your tank, but for driver schools or sprint races this is the way to go. In the four years that Turner Motorsport ran the E36 in SCCA Touring car this is the fuel pump setup that was used and there was never any fuel starvation problem after this conversion.

    **This kit is for 01/1995 and later E36 6 cylinder. We recommend checking your production date / fuel pump to be sure you don't already have this fuel pump in your car. If you have the later (01/1995 and newer) style pump, then you will want (need!) this kit. This fuel pump kit will benefit later production 1995 M3 & 325i, all 1996-1999 M3, all 1996-1998 328i, all 1996-1999 328is, 1998-1999 323is as well as Euro-spec E36 M3 3.0 liter (but NOT Euro 3.2 liter).

    Idle Control Valve - M50, M52, M52TU, M54   (more info)
    Rough or hunting idle? Stalling? Sputtering? These are all symptoms of poor fuel delivery or a vacuum leak in your intake system. The idle control valve is one of the areas that you can check to fix these issues. The ICV is basically a electrically-driven throttle body that regulates the air/fuel mixture at light throttle openings. Over time, the ICV can become gummed up with oil and carbon, resulting in slow or blocked operation. Worst case, the electric motor inside will freeze which will stall the engine.

    The ICV will typically need to be cleaned or replaced every 100k miles. It can be cleaned with carb cleaner but for seriously dirty or old ICVs you may want to replace the whole unit with a new one. There is also a hard rubber seal between the ICV and the manifold and this should be replaced as well. You may also want to replace the Crankcase Vent Valve as it can also fill up with oil and carbon and replacement can be done at the same time as the ICV.

    Add a new ICV to your M50 Manifold Upgrade to save time and money!

    Bosch 24 lb Fuel Injector - Blue Top (Bosch # 0-280-150-947)   (more info)
    The 24 LB Bosch blue-top injector is used in many high performance vehicles which require a good amount of fuel. This fuel injector is most commonly used on Ford Mustangs, and other domestic V8's, which require a healthy amount of fuel. This is a genuine Bosch fuel injector, Bosch part number 0-280-150-947 / Ford Motorsport part # F1TE-D5A. Sold individually, so be sure to order enough for your application.

    We use this particular Bosch injector on modified E36 M3 BMWs, which require more fuel to balance the air/fuel ratio after adding modifications such as cold air intake, cams, headers, etc. During our own testing we found the stock BMW injectors reach their limits with only a few modifications (intake, HFM, and basic chip). Anything more than these basic upgrades and you will need larger injectors. In the packages and kits we have developed we found the 24# pound fuel injector to be ideal – not too large and not too small. With the correct software you can run your engine without fear of the mixture being too lean. This is the fuel injector we use in our 3.2 OBD-II kits as well as in our 3.0/3.2 OBD-I systems. This injector, and the software we have developed when using them, are designed for the E36 M3 BMWs only (We have not seen a reason to use them on a E36 325 or 328).

    Made in the USATMS solid mount kits will hold up to the abuse that a powerful, high revving race motor will induce. The main benefit is that they reduce the torque and power lost from rubber mounting movement. Rubber mounts absorb the energy and vibrations produced from the torque of the motor. By not allowing that motion and energy to be absorbed, more power is transmitted faster. The solid engine mounts locate the engine in the original orientation, but 5mm lower, and the transmission mounts are 1mm lower than the original mounts and are also located in the original orientation. This lowers the car’s center of gravity and improves the overall handling of the car. Solid mounting kits should be used for race only applications. These are the exact mounts used our SPEED World Challenge race cars. Subframe reinforcement kits are highly recommended to go along with this kit to reduce the risk of damage to the subframe. We highly recommend using the transmission and engine mounts together and installing this as a complete kit. Mixing a rubber mount with a metal mount will cause undue stress on the mouting points. This kit fits all E36 and E46 6 cylinder models.

    E36 6 Cylinder Oil Cooler Kit - Stage 2 (Uses Euro Oil Cooler)   (more info)
    The TMS Stage 2 Oil Cooler Kit takes the benefits of the factory oil cooler and housing in Stage 1 and adds the TMS-exclusive HTP oil lines. This makes it possible to use the factory oil cooler with a supercharger or a racing alternator pulley. This is possible because the oil lines are routed away from the front of the alternator and alternator pulley. The TMS Stage 2 Oil Cooler Kit uses mostly factory BMW parts to maintain the same clean appearance and performance you would expect if it was installed by the factory. The HTP lines (High Temperature Polymer Braided) oil lines are better than a rubber or stainless steel line. They are non-abrasive, unlike stainless lines, so they won’t cut into power steering or coolant hoses. Our Kit works on all US-spec 6-cylinder E36 BMWs and the MZ3 Roadster/Coupe with the S52 engine. All components included with the TMS Stage 2 Oil Cooler Kit bolt or clip into place with only a slight modification to the alternator cooling tube (only required on particular models).     What does TMS do to the E36 M3 Euro Oil Filter housing?
    The Euro E36 M3 cars use a different VANOS system and the VANOS oil line is a different size. The banjo bolt on the US car is M14x1.5 thread and the housing is drilled and tapped using a jig on a machine – not by hand – so the outside surface of the flange is smooth and flat to prevent leaks. This allows this filter housing to be used on US spec M3's, as well as any non-M E36 6 cylinder BMW.

Standard oil coolers utilize “hard lines” which can cause fitment issues for cars with superchargers, Accusumps, or other aftermarket performance parts.     Made in the USAThrough experimentation and data acquired from our E36 World Challenge Touring Cars, it was discovered that in long corners and under heavy braking that there was an oil starvation problem in the M50 and M52 engines. BEHR was the original equipment supplier to BMW, so you know the BEHR made expansion tank will be the highest quality available. Be leary of competitors selling this part for less -- is it a BEHR? Probably not. We only carry the BEHR brand expansion tank as it is the only one we use in our own BMWs.

    If you are overhauling your coolant system, now is the time to consider preventative replacing this expansion tank. These are known to go bad, causing a leak which can leave you stranded. If your car has over 100k miles and hasn't had one of these replaced, we highly recommend replacement.

    Need a new coolant level sensor too? If your coolant level sender is bad, your on board computer will constantly display a "low coolant" message (unless your coolant is actually low...).     PWR 42mm Aluminum Radiator for E36 323, 325, 328, M3   (more info)
    The 42mm PWR Euro E36 radiator fits the Euro E36 M3 models as well as US-spec E36 325, 328, and M3s. This radiator has a core that is 4mm larger than the stock Behr radiator. If you're looking for a radiator with more cooling capacity and a provision for the stock Euro oil cooler, this is the one. Everyone knows the E36 has an Achilles heal in the cooling system with flimsy radiator necks, plastic materials, unreliable water pumps, and not a lot of capacity for some applications. PWR has addressed some of these issues with a slightly thicker radiator, able to hold more fluid. Increasing the amount of fluid in the system leads to shorter saturation times (the length of time the cooling fluid is exposed to engine heat) which will give you more consistent engine temperatures, reducing wear and tear on other cooling components such as the water pump and thermostat. This is great as a durable replacement radiator for a street car or as an upgrade for a track car. For super-serious cooling capacity check out our PWR 55mm radiator, however, if you don't need the additional capacity we recommend the 42mm unit because of its lighter weight (both in the radiator itself and carrying less fluid).

    Not only is this radiator larger, it's designed with the stresses of motorsports in mind. The cooling vanes use a unique oven-brazed bonding technology that will not fatigue and crack like epoxyed construction. We have been more impressed with the fitment and quality of PWR over any other brand currently on the market. Aircraft-grade aluminum is used for the tanks and frame, which are TIG-welded for superior strength. We like this radiator a lot for dual-purpose track/street cars because it does not intrude too much into the engine bay and it's a direct fit with the factory Euro oil cooler and factory mounting hanger (note: not TMS oil cooler hardware). The factory Euro oil cooler hanger will have to be used if you're using the factory oil cooler (we sell the hanger alone if you need it). That makes this radiator a plug-in upgrade for true Euro-spec cars. With or without an oil cooler, this radiator is a direct replacement for the stock E36 radiator, with all of the same hose locations and fittings as the original radiator. It mounts to the car with the original clips on the radiator support and the fan shroud/expansion tank bolts to the radiator (you will need to supply your own M6 and M8 hardware as spacing and installing the shroud can be done several different ways). Each radiator is pressure-tested during manufacturing.

    This PWR radiator for the E36 325, 328, and M3 is a super-large 55mm core with a larger tank capacity for bulletproof cooling. If you're looking for the most complete and unbeatable radiator solution for your E36, this is the best we have seen. We do not believe it is safe to change the crankshaft pulley due to the potential harm to the crankshaft. These kits provide a 10%-20% overall reduction in driving your car's systems and have been dyno-tested with a gain of up to 11hp.

    Kit includes water pump, power steering, alternator pulleys and belt. The T-6061 hard anodized aluminum pulleys account for a 10 to 20-percent decrease in accessory speeds, reducing the load on the engine but still maintaining a safe margin for reliability on all components. Installation involves removing the fan for easy access to the front of the engine. The main drive belt comes off easy and each pulley is mounted with Allen head bolts. Typical installation time is 1.5 hours. New main drive belt is included. The pulleys were good for 10.7 hp at 6960 rpm and 8.1 lb-ft of torque at 5550 on the 1995 M3.

    *Alternator pulleys - we offer two kits, one for the performance minded individual and one for the serious audiophile. If you have a significant additional load on the alternator, from aftermarket audio amplifiers, you will not want to underdrive the alternator. Thus, we simply lighten that pulley rather then underdrive it. Choose from the menu below if you have a stock or an upgraded stereo.

    BMW used both BOSCH and VALEO brand alternators, which use different pulleys. If you know which you have, select your option below and we'll be sure to send you the correct alternator pulley for your BMW. Don't know which you have? NO PROBLEM! Simply tell us you don't know which style alternator you have, and we will send you both pulleys. This option costs $64, but you will get a $64 refund once we get the unused pulley back.     The early M50/M52 engines had a serious weak point: the water pump. BMW originally used a plastic impeller in the waterpump. This would degrade over time and eventually break apart. Your car overheats immediately. This water pump is the latest updated part with a composite impeller. The composite is stronger and lighter than the less-expensive metal impeller version. And it does not suffer from the problems of the early plastic design.
