Air Mass Sensors and HFMs

E36 M3 Euro HFM (0 280 217 806) (more info)

This Euro HFM (Hot Film Meter or mass air sensor) from the Euro M3 is larger in diameter than the USA's M3 meter. This HFM will meter and flow more air than the stock one, giving you more power. THIS REQUIRES PROPER SOFTWARE to run correctly and you may also need larger fuel injectors to prevent the engine from running lean.

We use this HFM on the 1995 M3 or any 1996+ S52 engine that has been converted to OBD-1 electronics. We prefer to use this HFM over the 540 meter because this is a direct bolt-on to the Euro airbox (for those that want a factory appearance). This HFM is not used on our OBD-2 Performance Kits or with OBD-2 Shark Injector software.

Turner-Porsche 3.5" HFM for E36 M3 (OBD-II) (more info)

This 3.5" HFM is used in our OBD-II Performance Packages on the 1996-1999 E36 M3 (and MZ3 S52). This is a Plug & Play and seamless kit built using a Porsche HFM, custom wiring harness adapter, and harness mounting bracket. This HFM is preferred because it has a greater resolution and reads larger quantities of air more precisely than the 540 or Euro M3 HFMs. We have put together this kit to be completely reversible and plug and play using factory plugs and connectors. It requires no splicing or modification of your stock connector harness, avoidng the pitfalls that can come from exposing your factory wiring. Using this without the harness will require you to bridge the grounds of the factory harness together in order for the HFM to send the correct signals to the computer.

Intake Kits and Individual Intake Components

Crankcase Vent Valve - E36, E39, Z3 (more info)

The crankcase vent valve (CVV) holds and releases oil vapors that build up in the engine. It's the same type of system previously known as a PCV valve and the same deficiencies exist. Over time, the CVV will become saturated and clogged with oil. When this happens, the oil-rich vapors from the engine will back up into the intake tract and eventually into the combustion chamber. The oil added to the gasoline/air mix will cause misfires, carbon deposits, rough running, and blue smoke out the tailpipe. Replacing the CVV every 70,000 miles will ensure the correct and clean ventilation of oil vapor.

Replacement of the CVV can be done without removing the intake manifold. But replacing it during an M50 Manifold upgrade is the perfect time.

Idle Control Valve - M50, M52, M52TU, M54 (more info)

Rough or hunting idle? Stalling? Sputtering? These are all symptoms of poor fuel delivery or a vacuum leak in your intake system. The idle control valve is one of the areas that you can check to fix these issues. The ICV is basically a electrically-driven throttle body that regulates the air/fuel mixture at light throttle openings. Over time, the ICV can become gummed up with oil and carbon, resulting in slow or blocked operation. Worst case, the electric motor inside will freeze which will stall the engine.

The ICV will typically need to be cleaned or replaced every 100k miles. It can be cleaned with carb cleaner but for seriously dirty or old ICVs you may want to replace the whole unit with a new one. There is also a hard rubber seal between the ICV and the manifold and this should be replaced as well. You may also want to replace the Crankcase Vent Valve as it can also fill up with oil and carbon and replacement can be done at the same time as the ICV.

M50 Manifold Conversion Adapter Kit (To install OBDI manifold on an M52/S52) (more info)

This kit includes everything to fit an OBDI M50 manifold to an OBDII M52 or S52 engine (1996-1999). It takes the guesswork out of adding the M50 manifold to your engine. The kit includes a CNC machined adapter, with all hardware and gaskets, that allows the freer flowing M50 manifold to be installed while maintaining full function of M52/S52 components including factory PCV cyclone / oil seperator valve. No vacuum leaks, no check engine lights. And the entire kit is completely reversible. Turner Motorsport has dealt with the problems from other kits and this adapter block is – by far – the best solution.

The base price of this kit does not include the M50 manifold. You can pick up a used manifold from a 1992-1995 E36 325i or a 1995 M3 3.0 liter. You can find them in local junk or scrap yards, online at Craigslist or eBay, or from various forums. If you would rather not deal with the potential pitfalls of a used part, we can offer a new Original BMW manifold to go with the adapter. While expensive, the new manifold is guaranteed to be in perfect condition with no cracks, warping, or foreign objects hidden inside. A new factory BMW manifold can be added to your order for $649, including shipping, by selecting the option below.

With the introduction of the 1996 model year came the OBDII emissions compliant engine. Among the many changes the OBDII engines received was a more restrictive air intake manifold. Where the older M50/S50 engines continued to make power up in the higher RPMs, the newer M52/S52 ran out of breath, limiting high-end horsepower, but boosting low-end torque. Converting the OBDII cars to the 1995 and earlier OBDI manifold is a popular modification to remove this high-rpm restriction.

To best maximize the horsepower gains of this modification, you should be using the M50 manifold with bigger cams, HFM, injectors, and software. We have found this combination of upgrades and software to yield the best results for producing top-end power. Note: using the M50 manifold shifts the power band higher in the RPM range. This is GREAT for track cars but not well-suited for street cars where the OBDII manifold works best to produce torque at lower RPM. Presently, we do not have software tuned for only the M50 manifold without cams or the HFM upgrade. Check our website again for future product releases. Optional fuel rail cover. The standard M52/S52 fuel rail cover is too tall for the M50 manifold and does not have the proper brackets for securing it in place over the fuel rail. We can correctly modify the stock M52 fuel rail cover for you to complete the factory appearance.

No-Toil Foam Filter Oil (for ITG Filters) (more info)

Don't use harsh solvents like gasoline to clean your ITG on your Eurosport/Conforti intake kit (or similar foam filter element). This product is all you need to maintain your ITG foam filter, and is recommend for use with all Conforti Cold-Air Intake Kits.

When cleaning an ITG foam filter, ITG recommends using warm water and a mild detergent (simple dish soap is fine). Strong detergents and solvents can harm the foam, and cause the filter to break down. Once dirt, dust and debris are rinsed out of the filter, it should be re-oiled to ensure proper function of the filter. ITG recommends No-Toil filter oil, as it is safe to the foam filter media, and is completely waterproof. Drive with more peace of mind through heavy rain and puddles.

Samco Intake Boot

E36 6 Cyl Samco Silicone Intake Boot (325/328/M3) (more info)

If you are about to (or already have) eliminated the restrictive stock BMW ASC+T traction control system, you'll want to upgrade to this Samco silicone intake boot. Lose the factory "accordian" desgin boot, which creates lots of intake turbulence (read: lost power!). The Samco intake elbow has a perfectly smooth interior finish, with no sharp angles or other obstacles for intake air to get slowed by. It's made using 4 layers of high quality silicone, designed to last for many years in even the most extreme conditions.

Installing this boot assumes your car either does not have traction control (ASC), or you will be removing it from your car. (You'll also need to install a 10ohm / 1watt resistor accross the ASC actuator wiring, to simulate the presence of the ASC modules, and avoid causing ABS faults). Removing ASC is a great way to decrease intake restriction, and this intake boot is perfect for this upgrade. We offer an intake boot plug if you are deleting ACS.

This intake boot works very well with all cold air intake kits, including the Conforti cold air kit (with standard 3.0" HFM) and AFE intake kits. Have you already upgraded to the 3.5" Euro/540i HFM? E36 6 Cyl Samco Silicone Intake Boot (for upgraded 3.5 inch HFM) (more info)

If you've upgraded to the 3.5" Euro, 540i or Porsche HFM you know how much of a difference reducing intake restriction makes on these engines. This Samco silicone intake boot is the perfect mate for cars that have been upgraded with the 3.5" HFM, as it doesn't require any reducers or adapters (which impair air flow). Unlike the factory rubber intake boot, which has an accordian-like shape that causes turbulence, this boot has a smooth interior surface for best possible air flow. When coupled with the 3.5" HFM this makes for the best possible flow to the throttle body and intake manifold.

E36/Z3 6 Cylinder Intake Tube Plug (For ASC Delete or Blocking PCV or Idle Control Valve hoses) (more info)

The TMS E36/Z3 6cyl Intake Tube Plug is intended to be used in a variety of applications ranging from ASC delete, deleting the idle control valve in a car with a aftermarket engine management system, re-routing the PCV hose to a catch can, aftermarket supercharged engines, or simply plugging one of the hose provisions in the E36 6cyl intake tubes. Also works great as a coolant hose plug. Plug can be drilled and tapped for a small air temp/water temp sensor, pre throttle body vacuum/boost/MAP sensor barb, or water alcohol/nitrous/methanol injector or barb. Works with M50, M50TU S52, M52, S52 engines.
