The result is a lot of vibration and reduced feedback and response from the steering.

Meyle has addressed this issue with bushings that are not fluid-filled. The bushing is made of solid rubber that will last longer than the original bushing and is a bit stiffer than new originals for better response and feel. The lack of play from the solid rubber design will mean sharper steering, restoring much of the car's precision and 'connected' feel.

This is a package of Meyle HD control arms with the HD bushings already pressed in. This makes for an easy swap out-swap in install. These arms replace the existing stock upper control arms - otherwise known as a tension strut or strut support arm. It's the arm with the twist. Shock & Spring Packages

TMS has put together a shock and spring package designed to lower your car's ride height thus improving handling, reducing body roll, and give your car a more athletic feel without being punishing for everyday use. We chose H&R Springs to replace the factory springs. These will lower your car tastefully for a better appearance. Since these springs are progressive they stiffen as they are compressed. This keeps the ride civilized. A Bilstein Sport gas-pressure shock absorber works with these H&R springs to maintain suspension travel and keep unwanted body motions to a minimum. Bilstein shocks carry a lifetime warranty.

For the E39, BMW had a standard suspension and a factory sport suspension. The difference is in the ride height. Below is a table with the model and drop in ride height with the H&R Sport springs. Note: H&R does not make springs for the E39 Touring (wagon).

Front Upper Spring Perch With Bearing - E38, E39, E46 M3, E60 M5 (more info)

If you are removing or changing the front struts or springs or replacing the upper strut mount, NOW is the perfect time to replace this upper spring perch. BMW calls it a "upper spring pocket with axial cage bearing". It's really the upper spring plate with the bearings sandwiched between two plastic collars. The bearing insert is a common wear item becoming noisier, and gritty, or will just fail completely. You won't feel that they're bad from driving the car but you may hear clunking or popping sounds from the front struts. You can replace the rubber mounts on the car but don't leave this part out! It may be just as worn and you won't want to put them back in the car. These are sold individually, so be sure to get two for your car.

Front Upper Strut Mount - E39 540i M5 and Z8 (more info)

Upper shock mounts and bearings are good to replace while replacing front shocks. It is easier and often less expensive to replace them preventatively than to have them fail shortly afterward and have to take apart the whole suspension a second time. This front shock tower bearing fits BMW E39 540i M5 and Z8.

When the fluid is gone the rubber left over cannot match the original bushing's strength. The left over rubber is not stiff enough to resist the movements from the suspension. The result is a lot of vibration and reduced feedback and response from the steering.

Meyle has addressed this issue with bushings that are not fluid-filled. The bushing is made of solid rubber that will last longer than the original bushing and is a bit stiffer than new originals for better response and feel. The lack of play from the solid rubber design will mean sharper steering, restoring much of the car's precision and 'connected' feel.
