JB Racing has addressed the inadequate clutch in the E39 M5 with this larger
clutch kit matched to their renowned aluminum flywheels. By using the larger
clutch components of the mighty 850CSi (5.6 liter V12) and a
specially-engineered aluminum flywheel, JBR can now offer a clutch package
capable of handling a tuned M5 V8.
The 850CSi's clutch is a 280mm sprung-hub disc with organic materials --
perfect for street/daily driver use. The disc is a full 40mm (1.5 inch) larger
than the stock M5 clutch. The clutch disc itself is a spring-loaded design to
minimize clutch chatter and transmission rattle. With beefier components, you
won't have to worry about your extensive upgrades incinerating the clutch.
The flywheel is a lightweight aluminum unit, specially designed for use with
the 850CSi clutch. It weighs 16lbs - 24lbs lighter than the factory M5 dual-mass
flywheel.
