This software is a major refinement of the stock software. It makes the car much easier to drive with less hesitation, more torque, and incredibly smooth operation. A lot of tuning has been done at the low RPM ranges to improve response. The car won’t hesitate or lag, making the car easier to drive. And with the extra torque you can drive in a higher gear and not have to downshift as often. Theoretically this means better fuel mileage too!

How does it work? The Shark Injector makes changes to the stock BMW software in the areas of fuel enrichment, transition fueling, camshaft timing, ignition timing, and VANOS control to take full advantage of 91+ octane fuel. BMW ‘de-tuned’ cars for the North American market in the event inferior fuel was used. We reverse those changes to gain more horsepower and torque. 91 or higher octane fuel must be used.

How does it install? The Shark Injector plugs into your car’s On Board Diagnostic (OBD) port, located under the dashboard in most cars. At the push of a button the Injector begins communicating with your car’s computer. The Shark handles everything from that point on – reading and copying the stock software, re-loading its own performance version, and checking its work along the way. Conforti Shark Injector performance software tuned for the an awesome OBD2 package – M50 manifold, M3 S52 camshafts, and intake. This software makes full use of the benefits of the M50 manifold when used with cams and intake. Without the software, you’re not getting the full effect of these upgrades in the upper rev range. The stock software – or a regular Shark Injector – is tuned for low-end torque using the stock manifold and cams. It’s like a marathon runner in a 40-yard dash – he’ll put in a good effort but won’t be the quickest! Special attention was paid to the low-end and mid-range too so that torque was not lost with the M50 manifold.

With this software you will notice more top end power, a broader torque band, and a smoother running engine. The rev limit is raised to 7000 RPM with the top speed limiter removed. Works with 91 or higher octane fuel.

Choice of several options to make driving your M5 more enjoyable:

Standard Performance Software. The car's Sport and DSC functions remain the same as stock but all of the other Shark Injector benefits (more horsepower and torque, smoother engine, quicker throttle response) are added. Available with either stock 7000 RPM rev limit or a raised 7400 RPM limit.

DSC button controls Sport mode - With this feature you can control how the DSC and Sport mode interact. By pressing the DSC button and turning the system off you will automatically engage Sport mode. And by turning DSC back on, the Sport mode will disengage. This effectively de-activates the Sport button on the console. You'll only have to push one button instead of two! Available only with raised 7400 RPM limit and Shark Enhanced throttle settings.

Throttle Sensitivity - Choose from the Euro or Shark Enhanced programming for the throttle settings. With the Shark Enhanced option, the throttle in both normal and Sport Mode becomes much quicker and more sensitive. The Euro setting uses a throttle map from the Euro M5 which is much smoother than the current US throttle settings. Throttle opening in relation to pedal position is smoother and more linear in non-Sport and especially in Sport Mode. Shark Enhanced will make everything quicker still but if you find the M5 is difficult to drive smoothly or "launch", then the Euro throttle map may be best for you. Note: the Euro setting is also known as the "M5Board Tune".

We've done several dyno runs on more than one M5 to establish what the average / typical gains are, before posting hp/torque figures. To the right are two dyno charts of the same car that have proved to be typical on our Dynapack chassis dyno. The subject car was equipped with an intake and mufflers but the only change in our dyno runs was the Shark software. On the right, you can view dyno charts showing the typical gains from this software upgrade -- one from a 3rd gear dyno run, and the other from a 4th gear dyno run. Remember that it's the gain before-to-after that matters most, not the wheel horsepower figure.

E39 M5 Shark Injector Performance Software System - RACE VERSION (more info)
RACE VERSION Performance Software for E39 M5
This Shark Injector software has been specifically designed for cars running with headers but no cats. The software "turns down" the reading from the O2 sensor and modifies the tolerances for the EGT sensor. It also includes special programming to prevent Secondary Air pump codes. The Race version is especially useful for a track-only / raced M5 where the car does not need to meet emissions requirements. Because this part deletes the BMW emissions equipment, a Smog Waiver must be signed and on file at TMS before parts can be shipped.

The tuning of this software gets some of the same features as our standard "street" version Shark Injector performance software: Increased rev limit to 7425 (up from 7000 stock), remapped part-throttle fuel and spark, acceleration enrichment, transistion fueling (how the car responds to rapid change in pedal), and VANOS control as needed to optimize the vehicle for operation on premium fuel (91+ octane).

This race version performance software works best with the SuperSprint Header System (part# 786801).

Options:

This version of the Shark Injector includes special programming for the Sport Mode - the Sport Button functions as before but this will remember the Sport Mode setting you left in when you turned the car off. If you were in Sport Mode when you turned the car off, it will remember that and start in Sport. And vice versa - if you left in normal mode it will start in normal. In the past, when a Shark Injector owner needed an update made to his/her software, it required physically shipping the Shark Injector to Turner Motorsport for us to make the update for you. Advances made in the latest generation "USB" Shark Injector now make it possible for YOU to apply this type of update from your home computer, eliminating the hassle of shipping and waiting for your Shark Injector.

This cable, when combined with any Windows based PC (or Mac running Windows via Bootcamp, VMware, Parallels, etc) and a SOON-TO-BE RELEASED Software Update application allows updates to be applied to the Shark Injector's programming. As periodic updates are released, we'll be able to email you updates to your Conforti Shark Injector, free of charge.

Please note, this cable is NOT required to install the Shark Injector, and is only used when performing updates to your Shark Injector.
