Coolant Expansion Tank - E46 (non-M), X3, X5 3.0

This is a replacement expansion tank for the non-M E46 3 series, which includes all 1999-2005 3 series (**no M-3). This is the updated version, which replaced the older inferior part, part# 17 13 7 787 039 (17137787039) which was known for failure. If your expansion tank has developed a crack or leak, you will want to install this new expansion tank. If you are replacing your radiator, you might also want to consider replacing the expansion tank while you are in there.

This radiator expansion tank cap is used most BMW's from 1991-2006. It is a common failure item. When this item fails, it cannot hold pressure which results in your BMW overheating. If you are overhauling your coolant system, now is the time to consider preventative replacing this cap. It is also referred to as the coolant reservoir cap.

This is the sensor / sending unit that notifies the computer if your coolant level is low. When this fails, it can give a false indication of low coolant -- or worse, not inform you of a low coolant situation which could potential cause overheating. (Note: This sensor is also found in the windshield washer container, to alert the computer when you are low on washer fluid)
This sensor also serves as the washer fluid level sensor on many models.

Cooling System Overhaul Package for E46 M3

 As the E46 M3 gets on in years and mileage, the cooling system will be one of the areas that needs the most attention. We have packaged all of the major cooling components into one overhaul kit, including: OEM radiator, OE BMW water pump, OEM thermostat, hoses, gaskets, o-rings, and clamps.
We have found that the E46 M3 can develop serious cooling issues, even on daily driven street cars. While the infamous radiator and water pump failures of the E36 are a thing of the past, the E46 M3 still has its own complications. The best thing you can do is preventative maintenance. We recommend replacing the water pump before 80,000 miles and the radiator before 100,000 miles. By addressing these problem areas before a failure, you will save yourself a larger repair bill in the future.
We also offer several other items that may help your overhaul project or make sense to do at the same time:

E46 Cooling System Overhaul Kit - 1999-2005 3 Series

This is a compete cooling system overhaul kit, which includes all the common E46 cooling system failure parts bundled into a complete package. This cooling system package is for all of the non-M E46 3 series -- those made in 1999-2005 as well as 2006 coupes and convertibles.
The E46 cooling system is much like that of the previous generation 3 series; Several of the primary cooling components are prone to failure within 60k miles (or less in many cases). A failure in the cooling system can lead to overheating and catastrophic engine failure. Don't gamble your engine! By replacing these core items preventatively, such as the radiator & waterpump, you are difusing what could be a ticking cooling system time bomb. And if you've had a failure of one of these parts, now is the time to refresh your cooling system. Our kit includes one OEM Behr radiator, an Original BMW waterpump (with updated composite impeller), thermostat (complete with housing), radiator cap, and new hoses (as pictured).
Optional items (which can be added below):
- Original BMW antifreeze
- Upgrade the waterpump to a Steward EMP High Performance pump
- Add a new coolant expansion tank (known for cracking)
- Add a new coolant level sensor (known for failing / throwing "check coolant" messages)
