    BMW E46 Shark Injector Performance Software, 1996-2005 Models

    The Shark Injector is an amazing hand-held unit that plugs into your car’s diagnostic port and re-flashes the computer with performance software. The software was developed by renowned BMW tuner Jim Conforti, who has nearly 20 years of BMW engine tuning experience. The Shark Injector is one of the safest and most cost-effective enhancements you can do – offering features and results that other upgrades simply cannot touch. The Shark Injector will also be upgrade-able through its own USB port, allowing you to upgrade to different software as your needs and modifications change (under development).

    This software is a major refinement of the stock software. It makes the car much easier to drive with less hesitation, more torque, and incredibly smooth operation. A lot of tuning has been done at the low RPM ranges to improve response. The car won’t hesitate or lag, making the car easier to drive. And with the extra torque you can drive in a higher gear and not have to downshift as often. Theoretically this means better fuel mileage too!

    How does it work? The Shark Injector makes changes to the stock BMW software in the areas of fuel enrichment, transition fueling, camshaft timing, ignition timing, and VANOS control to take full advantage of 91+ octane fuel. BMW ‘de-tuned’ cars for the North American market in the event inferior fuel was used. We reverse those changes to gain more horsepower and torque. 91 or higher octane fuel must be used.

    How does it install? The Shark Injector plugs into your car’s On Board Diagnostic (OBD) port, located under the dashboard in most cars. At the push of a button the Injector begins communicating with your car’s computer. The Shark handles everything from that point on – reading and copying the stock software, re-loading its own performance version, and checking its work along the way. The whole operation is completed in under 20 minutes. A battery charger with a continuous 10-20amp charge is required (available below if you do not currently own one).     330i ZHP Rev Limit: there are multiple versions of stock ZHP software and BMW used different rev limits in some of them. A ZHP automatic will always have a lower rev limit than a manual in the interest of preserving the automatic transmission. Our engine software will alter the rev limit set in the ECU but other limits in the auto transmission programming will maintain the factory rev limit. Manual ZHPs have stock rev limits that vary - some are set as high as 6920 by the factory software. The Shark ZHP software sets all manual tranmission rev limits to 6920.

    Does your 325 have the M56 "SULEV" Engine? Many of the 325's produced for the US -- particularly in California, Massachusetts, and a few other states -- came with a different engine, the M56 which meets "SULEV" (Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle) emissions classification. A visual inspection of your engine (as shown below) is the best way to determine if your 325 has the M56 SULEV engine.

It features a higher rev limit (8,600 RPM) and more aggressive mapping than our standard Race software. Under SCCA rules the check engine light cannot be on after the race.

Multiple engine management maps were modified to make more useable power without compromising reliability or drivability. The Shark Injector software modifies the part throttle and full throttle maps for fuel, VANOS variable valve timing, ignition, knock sensor control, drive-by-wire throttle, and other areas to extract more power. Throttle response is faster and smoother in standard and Sport Mode, allowing you to get on the power without drama - this is the way the M3 should have felt from the factory! Our T2 M3 scored multiple wins on the East Coast and finished third in the 2006 SCCA T2 Runoffs (behind two Subarus) and was the highest finishing E46 M3 (from 2013 the E46 M3 was reclassified to the T3 class). This software is a more aggressive tune than our standard street and Race software and additional engine maintenance and care is advised, including more frequent engine oil changes, oil analysis, valve adjustments, and other maintenance common to race-only vehicles. The minimum octane for this software is 93 AKI with a new rev limit of 8,600 RPM.

The software for running without cats includes special programming tweaks that will ignore certain readings from the post-cat O2 sensors and rely on the data from the first set of O2 sensors and the EGT sensor.     This USB cable is compatible with the newer version USB enabled Shark Injectors, which are distinguished by the small USB port located on the face of the device. In the past, when a Shark Injector owner needed an update made to his/her software, it required physically shipping the Shark Injector to Turner Motorsport for us to make the update for you. Advances made in the latest generation "USB" Shark Injector now make it possible for YOU to apply this type of update from your home computer, eliminating the hassle of shipping and waiting for your Shark Injector.

    This cable, when combined with any Windows based PC (or Mac running Windows via Bootcamp, VMware, Parallels, etc) and a SOON-TO-BE RELEASED Software Update application allows updates to be applied to the Shark Injector's programming. As periodic updates are released, we'll be able to email you updates to your Conforti Shark Injector, free of charge.

    Please note, this cable is NOT required to install the Shark Injector, and is only used when performing updates to your Shark Injector. Should you require updates to your Shark Injector at a later date, you may acquire the cable then -- or you may purchase the cable now to keep with your Shark Injector for future use, if needed (recommended).
