    The Akrapovic engineers developed a complete exhaust system for the M6. The complete exhaust system behind the exhaust manifold is newly designed in order to optimize the exhaust flow by offering a bigger tube diameter, interference crossover tubes to improve the vibration characteristics of the exhaust, and the elimination of the second set of catalysts. The rear mufflers are now split into 2 separate units. This technique reduces the weight by 24 kg (52.91 lbs) in comparison to the 44 kg for the stock system.

    The stock torque curve of the M6 V10 engine has a dip in the area of 5000 rpm. Akrapovic exhaust has the cure as the maximum torque increase of 15 Nm (at 6030 rpm) is exactly within that area. The increase of power by 14 HP comes in at around 4000 rpm. This can be felt considerably and the vehicle feels more dynamic. This system may not meet emissions standards in all states.

    The stock M5/M6 header system is pretty good as far as BMW systems go... but Supersprint has improved on the design with mandrel-bent tubing (not crushed tubing like the stock system), full stainless-steel construction, and a bolt-on installation (the engine does not require removal). Each tube is mounted to the exhaust ports with the correct-sized flanges. The tubes are as close to equal length as possible and merge together in Supersprint's precision collector.

    These headers can then be bolted to the rest of the factory exhaust or installed with Supersprint high-flow catalytic converters. Dyno testing has shown repeated gains of over 60hp with the complete system. You can choose to buy only the Supersprint headers to bolt to the stock secondary cats or high-flow Supersprint secondary cats are an option.

    Removal of the factory headers and installation of the Supersprint headers can be done with the engine in the car - the engine does not need to be removed at any time. Also, there is no cutting, welding, or fabricating required. These will bolt to existing flanges or piping. However, because the process involves the removal of several critical systems and components to gain access to the engine (the external oil pumps of the dry-sump oiling system, for instance) the installation of these headers should only be done by a shop familiar with installations of intricate header systems.

    The Supersprint 'Race' rear muffler system is one step beyond the standard Sport mufflers. Don't be fooled by the name - the 'Race' mufflers are designed for street use and the name only distinguishes it from the standard Sport system. With the stock system the sound is very subdued. With the 'Race' mufflers the sound is much more noticeable and more aggressive - a perfect sound to compliment the assertive nature of an M6. You will hear this exhaust but it will not be intrusive or sound out of place on a civilized sports/GT car like the M6. The Supersprint center pipes to delete the rear resonators are a welcome addition.

    Supersprint has designed their new Sport mufflers to be just a little more throaty than stock. If you think you're stock exhaust is just too quiet this would be a great upgrade.     Oxygen Sensors (O2 Sensors)

    Made in the USAO2 Sensor Bung and plug. This weld-in bung allows an O2 sensor to be screwed into your exhaust system. It's required for custom exhaust systems, and is also useful for air/fuel ratio measurements when dyno testing. A threaded plug is included to cap off when not in use. Bung and cap/plug are both 100% stainless steel. The bung and plug are also available separately (in case you don't need both). Simply choose your option below.

       Install Tips
    • Locate bung as close to engine a possible, without exceeding the maximum operating temperature for the O2 sensor. The suggested location is just down-stream of the merge-collector on each bank of cylinders.
    • Sensors located after upstream exhaust system leaks or too close to exhaust outlets are susceptible to poor readings or influence of ambient air
    • O2 Sensors exposed to exhaust gasses with too high amount of un-burnt fuel can lead to misleading readings. A possible lean reading.
    • Locate sensor/bung 90° to exhaust gas stream.
    • Locate sensor/bung in tube with a minimum of 10° up angel to prevent liquid build up in sensor element.
    • Use stainless steel welding wire or rod when installing bung.
    • Do not have bung plug or a oxygen sensor installed when welding bung in place.
    • Welding can distort the bung so it is recommended you chase/tap the threads of the bung after welding.
    • When installing O2 sensor or plug, use an O2 sensor compatible high temperature resistant grease on the threads.
    • Use tightening torque suggested by O2 senor manufacturer.
