If the indicator on your dashboard is on alerting you to replace brake pads soon, you will also need to replace the pad wear sensor. If the indicator alerting you to a malfunction with your BMWs ABS sensor you may need to replace one of these. There is one sensor per wheel.

Brake Pad Sensor Wire - E90 E92 E93, E82 E88 - Rear
(more info) Replacement rear pad wear sensor, typically replaced when changing brake pads. If your brake lining warning is activated, the sensor will need to be replaced. For E9x 3 series and E82/E88 1 series.
