Most BMWs have a 7mm female hex bolt for their caliper guide bolt (what the caliper slides in and out on). And most common hex / Allen socket sets include a 7mm. But one problem you may find yourself in is that the rear shock interferes with the rear caliper guide bolts. Most off-the-shelf sockets are too long overall to fit in between the shock body and where the guide bolt is. This 'stubby' 7mm Allen is the perfect solution. It takes a 3/8 drive and stands 32mm tall (a comparable Craftsman is over 45mm). The Allen section itself is 13mm which allows it to fully engage the guide bolt and leave the minimum amount hanging outside for your ratchet.
Since the 7mm caliper guide bolt is used on almost all BMWs built since 1982, this tool will prove to be extremely useful to any DIYer. 7mm caliper socket applies to the following BMW models:

If you have ever attempted to do a valve job or cylinder head gasket project on an M42, M44, M50, or M52 engine you know that the repair manual will refer to the special BMW timing tool kit. This tool kit includes a flywheel locating lock pin, and a special set of camshaft locators that lock the cams in a precise location. The tools are very easy to install. The kit is specifically designed to hold the engine and cams in proper timing during the cylinder head removal and re installation process. This avoids the chance of bending the valves doing the head install process. The precision ground holding blocks lock over the square ends of both intake and exhaust cams. The CNC machined flywheel locating pin passes through a hole in the rear of the engine block and passed through a machined hole in the flywheel.To avoid improper cam timing on the latest BMW engines, the factory has devised a cam timing system that locks the crankshaft and cams into a specific position prior to cylinder head removal. If you have a 2005 or later (or a 745 of any year) it is important to be able to tell them apart. The most notable difference between the CBS system and the SI (oilservice and inspection) system is the oil change reminder (CBS will say "oil") (SI will say "oilservice"). Other visible differences exist to help you tell CBS from SI: such as a more detailed listing of the maintenance that needs to be done: Where the SI system will simply say "Inspection", the CBS system will list detailed items on your dash, such as fluids, belts, etc…

We highly recommend using a stretch gauge when installing rod bolts and other fasteners, where it is possible to measure the length of the fastener. It is the most accurate way of measuring preload of any bolt. Simply follow manufacturer's instructions, or use the chart in the ARP catalog for ARP rod bolts.
When using a stretch gauge it's best to measure the fastener prior to starting and monitor overall length during installation. When the bolt has stretched a specified amount, the correct preload or clamping force has been applied. We recommend that you maintain a chart of all rod bolts and make a note of the fastener length prior to installation and after any disassembly. If there is a permanent increase of .0005? or more in length, there is a deformation and the bolt should be replaced.

If you are replacing OEM spark plugs on a 2006 or newer 6 cylinder turbo then you most likely need this socket 3/8 drive socket tool which works on the 12-point non-standard spark that came on most N54 engines. This very slim-walled 12 point socket allows you to use a standard 3/8 drive socket wrench & extension to remove and install factory BMW spark plugs on the N54 based engines, as found on all E90 and E92 335i and all 2006+ E60 535i, Z4 3.5i, with turbo motor. This is the new evolution of our popular Brake Bleeder Bottle. The latest design features a one-way check valve inside the bottle that is operated when you pump the brakes. This is a more economical and simpler system than other "1 man bleeding" kits - no modification to your brake system and you only have to buy the one bottle. The one-way check valve works like most other systems on the market - attach the bottle and hose, open your bleed screw, and pump your brakes from the pedal. This old-fashioned tool serves a number of purposes - A) It's a must-have for changing wheels. B) It's also useful for mocking a wheel on the hub to measure for spacer thickness. It's inserted into one of the bolt holes by hand and easily slides out when done.
A) This wheel pin (wheel stud) makes changing wheels a snap. When it's pressed into the wheel hub, the new wheel slides right over it and each bolt hole lines up perfectly. No more wrangling with a wheel/tire to get the bolts to line up! After installing your other wheel bolts, slide this out of the wheel and replace it with the last wheel bolt. We love this tool over all others because it's so easy to use. This tool slides into the bolt hole - it's not threaded so there's no danger of cross-threading or damaging the threads inside. And it's not affected by rust or other contaminants. Most BMW tool kits come with this tool already so it's easy to store and every BMW mechanic will be familiar with it.
B) If you're trying to figure out what size spacer to use this tool can make things easier. With the pin pressed in to the hub you can then slide M12 washers over it to mimic the thickness of a spacer. The extra length of this pin allows you to slide the wheel back/forth to set the positon of the wheel. Measure the thickness of your washers and that's your spacer size! For this procedure, it's recommended that you have 2 of these pins so the wheel does not rotate out of position.
