This package covers the front control arms and bushings on the 2001-2005 E46 325Xi and 330Xi. These cars use a unique front suspension but the principle design – and downside – is the same as almost all of the BMW 3-series since 1984. The inner and outer ball joints see a lot of wear as they are constantly in motion. With the heavy front end of the 4WD Xi, these components need frequent inspection and replacement. When the bushings and ball joints fail, the front end can shimmy and feel loose through the steering wheel. Excess play in the rubber bushings can cause alignment problems and sloppy steering. There is usually a knocking or clunking sound to further annoy you. We've assembled this
package to replace everything on both front control arms and restore your BMW's exceptional driving dynamics. All parts are OEM Boge, Lemforder, or Original BMW to maintain the highest quality standard.
This kit includes the following parts:
• LEFT FRONT CONTROL ARM, part# 31126758533 / 31 12 6 758 533
• RIGHT FRONT CONTROL ARM, part# 31126758534 / 31 12 6 758 534
• CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS (pair), part# 31129063163 / 31 12 9 063 163
• LEFT FRONT INNER BALL JOINT, part# 31126756695 / 31 12 6 756 695
• RIGHT FRONT INNER BALL JOINT, part# 31126756696 / 31 12 6 756 696
As an option, we can pre-install the control arm bushings into new brackets for you. This normally requires much haggling and frustration without the proper hydraulic press. But in our Service shop, we can assemble everything for you so your parts will be ready to bolt on as soon as they arrive on your doorstep! (sorry, no returns accepted on pre-assembly labor fee, please)

One common weak point in the E36 3-series model range is in the mounting and ball joints of the suspension. The front suspension ball joints in particular are prone to wearing out quite quickly thanks to a soft material in the ball joint itself, leaving you in a potentially dangerous situation. At best, worn ball joints and bushings will give you poor steering feedback and clunking noises. However, loose or worn ball joints will have excessive play which will drastically reduce the effectiveness of the steering and suspension. In extreme cases, the ball joint has been known to pop free of the control arm, resulting in total steering loss.
Meyle has addressed this problem with a higher-grade metal in their HD ball joints, similar to those used on the E36 M3. The metal will not wear or fatigue nearly as fast as the standard ball joints. The lifespan is greatly extended. A side benefit of the stiffer joint is better steering response. The metal will not flex or deflect like plastic, rubber, or any other material. The lack of play will mean sharper steering, restoring much of the car's precision and fun-to-drive character. Meyle is a German brand in business since 1958 and all of their products are TUV approved and meet or exceed ISO standards.
We supply the Meyle HD control arms as a set with new M3 rubber control arm bushings. You can choose bushings with either a centered hole (same as stock original) or with an offset hole (adds caster and camber). The stock rubber bushings (manufactured by Boge) will be perfect for most people but if you're looking for an upgrade, the offset bushings will give the car quicker steering response. The solid rubber mounts last longer and give better feedback than the original web design.
All Meyle HD parts come with a 4-year, unlimited mileage warranty.

New control arm bushing brackets with hardware.
Install the bushings into the brackets.

Trouble with your front suspension can ruin your ride and handling and potentially be unsafe. The rubber bushings and ball joints are designed to take abuse. But by 50,000 miles they will be showing signs of wear. Most state inspections will check ball joint and wheel play and your control arms and tie rods can lead to a failure if they're worn. Our front suspension refresh package covers all of the major wear items that would need to be replaced, including -This package is made up of aftermarket OEM alternative parts that come with a 2-year warranty. They use the same designs as the original BMW parts on your car so they meet OEM standards for fitment and operation. We have compared these parts to the Genuine BMW and OEM brands and found few differences. This package is an unbeatable money-saving bundle to restore your E46's precise handling and steering. We also offer all of the OE or OEM brands if you are more comfortable with those levels of quality and performance or are planning to track or autocross your car (the cast components of the aftermarket kit will not be as good as the OEM parts on the track).

The front control arm bushings is the Achilles heel on the E39 models. The original factory bushings are fluid filled and rely on the fluid to absorb vibration and resist deflection. When the fluid is gone the rubber left over cannot match the original bushing's strength. The left over rubber is not stiff enough to resist the movements from the suspension. The result is a lot of vibration and reduced feedback and response from the steering.
Meyle has addressed this issue with bushings that are not fluid-filled. The bushing is made of solid rubber that will last longer than the original bushing and is a bit stiffer than new originals for better response and feel. The lack of play from the solid rubber design will mean sharper steering, restoring much of the car's precision and 'connected' feel.
This is a package of Meyle HD control arms with the HD bushings already pressed in. This makes for an easy swap out-swap in install. These arms replace the existing stock upper control arms - otherwise known as a tension strut or strut support arm. It's the arm with the twist. The BMW part numbers for these arms are 31 12 1 141 717 and 31 12 1 141 718.

+ Option 1 - Stock Replacement
This option is the base set of replacement arms, ball joints, and bushings. These are direct replacement pieces that are no different than the parts that came on the car originally. If you want the same ride and handling characteristics as when the car was straight off the showroom, this is the best package for you to buy. Simply install your new parts, have an alignment done, and you're on your way!
Option 1 Package Includes:
Left & Right Upper Control Arms with ball joints (31126769797 and 31126769798) aka Thrust Arm, Tension Strut, or Pull Rod. Outer ball joint securing nuts Inner control arm bushings (31120393540)
+ Option 2 - Meyle HD Upgrade
The Meyle HD arms and bushings are also a direct replacement for the original arms but feature stronger, more durable components. The Meyle HD outer ball joint is much larger and a higher-grade steel than the factory spec. The larger ball joint will last longer and the dust boot is stronger as well to keep out moisture and gritty contaminants. The inner HD bushing is a solid rubber piece instead of the fluid-filled stock bushings. The problem with the stock hydraulic bushings is that the fluid leaks out over time and the leftover rubber is not resilient enough to maintain control. The Meyle HD bushing is all rubber and will last significantly longer. It's also stiffer and deflects less to give a more sporty and crisp handling, and sharper steering. All alignment specs remain as per factory.
Option 2 Package Includes:
Meyle HD Left & Right Upper Control Arms with HD ball joints (31126769797MY and 31126769798MY) aka Thrust Arm, Tension Strut, or Pull Rod. Outer ball joint securing nuts Meyle HD inner control arm bushings (31120304308MY)
+ Option 3 - OEM M3 Upgrade
The M3 control arm upgrade is for people who want a very serious change in the ride/handling of the car. These are the factory OEM E90/E92/E93 M3 upper control arms so the ride will not be much different than a standard M3. But it is a very large jump compared to the stock E9X arms and bushings. These are a direct replacement to the original arms and do not require any modification to install and will not change the alignment settings. But for the best results, we recommend only using these with the M3 lower control arms (wishbones).
Option 3 Package Includes:
OEM M3 Left & Right Upper Control Arms with ball joints (31102283575 and 31102283576) aka Thrust Arm, Tension Strut, or Pull Rod. Outer ball joint securing nuts OEM M3 inner control arm bushings (31102283579)
These Upper Control Arms will fit the following BMWs:
2006-2011 E90 BMW 325i 328i 330i 335d 335i - Sedan
2006-2011 E91 BMW 328i - Wagon
2007-2012 E92 BMW 328i 335i 335is - Coupe
2007-2012 E93 BMW 328i 335i - Convertible

Is your E39 5-series not feeling as precise as it used to? Do you notice the car wandering more or a loose feeling when cornering? If your E39 has not had the rear suspension overhauled within the last 60,000 miles, your bushings and ball joints are most likely worn. The rubber bushings are the key to the E39's acclaimed ride and handling. When new, the bushings provide a comfortable ride but also contribute to the precise and taut handling. But when the rubber is worn, the motions of the suspension are no longer kept in check, which can lead to the tires running in various angles and directions.
We have put together this package of rear control arms, links, wishbones, guide rods, and ball joints for the E39 525i, 528i, 530i and 540i. These are the common wear points on the E39's rear suspension. We only used the correct OEM Lemforder or approved Meyle parts for this kit - nothing that doesn't meet our standards for fitment, performance, quality, and customer satisfaction. And no part substitutes - these are the parts that BMW calls for in your rear suspension.
Included in kit -
33326767748 - lower outer ball joints (with new snap rings) - OEM Lemforder
33326770749 - integral links - OEM Lemforder
33326777424 - guide rods with bushings and ball joints - Meyle
33326767831, 33326767832 - wishbones with bushings and ball joints - OEM Lemforder
Optional - rear swaybar links (because this is an excellent time to replace these too)
Professional installation recommended and a wheel alignment is required. These new parts will do wonders in restoring your E39's handling! You'll wonder why you didn't do this sooner.

This E30 325iX front control arm is a direct replacement for the original part and is the Original BMW brand.
Control arms, and their integrated ball joints, are some of the most crucial components on a BMW suspension. The control arms literally control the wheel and suspension as they go through their range of motions. A faulty or worn control arm or ball joint is a very dangerous and potentially life-threatening problem so make sure they are inspected and replaced at regular intervals. For a street-driven car we advise yearly inspection and a full replacement every 3-4 years. For track-driven cars these should be inspected before every event and replaced every two years.
We also recommend replacing the bushings when changing the control arms. The bushings are mounted at the back of the control arm and located the arm to the frame rail on the car. The stock bushings are rubber and will wear out sooner than the control arms themselves. With the control arm off the car now is the perfect time to also replace the bushings.

This E46 or Z4 front control arm is a direct replacement for the original part and is the OEM Lemforder brand.

This upper front control arm (BMW may call it a thrust arm or tension strut) comes with the inner bushings and is a direct replacement for the original part, made by OEM supplier Lemforder.
This arm includes the outer ball joint and inner rubber bushing.

This control arm comes with the Meyle HD bushings already pressed in. This makes for an easy swap out-swap in install. These arms replace the existing stock upper control arms - otherwise known as a tension strut or strut support arm. It's the arm with the twist.
Meyle is a German brand in business since 1958 and all of their products are TUV approved and meet or exceed ISO standards. All Meyle HD parts come with a 4-year, unlimited mileage warranty.

The front upper and lower control arms from the E9X M3 are a direct bolt-in replacement upgrade for the stock parts on the non-M E90/E91/E92/E93 3-series and E82/E88 1-series. With the M3 components the fluid-filled bushings of the standard suspension are replaced with solid rubber cores or a sealed monoball-joint, making the suspension stiffer, more responsive, and longer lasting.
This package includes:
The upper control arms eliminate the fluid-filled stock bushing which is very prone to leaking the fluid and cease being effective. The solid rubber M3 bushing is also a bit stiffer for more precise steering and control.
The M3 lower control arm has a sealed inner bearing instead of the rubber-isolated stock bushing. The bearing allows the lower arm to rotate freely instead of binding up. It's also a bit longer and curved slightly to give more negative camber (adds .75 of negative camber).
Replaces the stock rod on cars with adaptive headlights.
With the added negative camber the steering is sharper and understeer is reduced. And the stiffer bushings and bearings deflect less which also improves steering feel and response. Since all of these parts are from the M3 there is no question on quality or longevity; no doubt as to their effectiveness or reputation. There's almost no downside to this upgrade. These are intended for street cars but even lightly tracked cars will see significant benefits to the handling and response.
We offer this package with the OEM TRW brand components or with Original BMW branded parts (stamped with TRW logo).
This M3 upgrade package fits the following BMWs:
2008-2012 E82 BMW 128i 135i

This arm controls the toe alignment in the M3 rear suspension. When these bushings wear out the tire loses toe control and the tire has too much lateral in/out movement. This can make the handling feel very nervous and imprecise and like the rear end is steering itself.
The rear toe arm is sold per side (both sides are the same). We offer this as the Original BMW part or from the OE Manufacturer TRW. TRW is the original supplier to BMW for this part. Choose your brand preference below.
This item fits the following BMWs:
2012-2013 E82 BMW 1M Coupe

2008-2013 E92 BMW M3 - Coupe
2008-2013 E93 BMW M3 - Convertible
This fits 1M/M3 models only. It is not used on non-M models.

One common weak point in the E36 3-series model range is in the mounting and ball joints of the suspension. The front suspension ball joints in particular are prone to wearing out quite quickly thanks to a soft material, leaving you in a potentially dangerous situation. At best, worn ball joints and bushings will give you poor steering feedback and clunking noises. However, loose or worn ball joints will have excessive play which will reduce the effectiveness of the steering and suspension. In extreme cases, the ball joint has been known to pop free of the control arm, resulting in total steering loss.
Meyle has addressed this problem with metal ball joints, similar to those used on the E36 M3. The metal in the HD joint will not wear or fatigue nearly as fast as the standard ball joints. The lifespan is greatly extended. The lack of play will mean sharper steering, restoring much of the car's precision and fun-to-drive character. Meyle is a German brand in business since 1958 and all of their products are TUV approved and meet or exceed ISO standards.

Price: $149.95 (USD)
This aluminum control arm, from the late E30 M3, is much lighter and stronger than the original part and a direct replacement for the stock steel control arm. Reducing weight will help suspension response and improve steering feel. The aluminum is also more desirable than steel because it will bend upon impact rather than snap, which may leave you with some steering control after a hard impact.

LemforderThis control arm upgrade was used on the high-performance 330i ZHP Performance Package and offered by BMW as a sport retrofit. These arms are identical dimensions as the regular arms so they are a direct replacement. But they have all metal ball joints instead of plastic or rubber. This means they last a lot longer and are much stronger. We used these in our Grand Am and World Challenge E46 racecars with excellent performance.

These M3 rear guide rod arms are an upgrade for the non-M cars. The stock non-M arms are made from sheetmetal spot welded together at the ends. The arm tends to flex and bend under even moderate cornering loads. Factor in gripper tires and more torque and this arm is inadequate for stability and consistent handling. The M3 arms are one piece of aluminum offering greater strength and with a sealed monoball inner bushing that allows the arm to rotate (instead of twisting).
This package includes:
- Left M3 Guide Rod - 33322283547
- Right M3 Guide Rod - 33322283548

E36/E46/Z4, including M models, rear lower control arm (camber arm, wishbone). This is a direct replacement for the stock arm and includes the inner bushing. These arms are designed to be slightly weak and flimsy as they will absorb impact energy. It's better for this arm to absorb an impact rather than the wheel or trailing arm, or subframe, etc. Also, unknowing tow truck drivers like to use this part to hook their chains on to. Consequently they bend as easily as a coat hanger.
Part #: 33321138380
Price: $69.95 (USD)
Replacement stock guide rod for the E82 1-series, E9X 3-series, and E84 X1. The guide rod helps to locate the rear suspension to the subframe and controls changes in the alignment as the suspension moves. As the rubber bushings wear, the alignment can change drastically, leading to a loose or floating handling feel. This is the stock replacement for the Left/Driver's side.

This rear guide rod for the E39 chassis helps to control the toe alignment of the car (the horizontal in/out angle of the tire). There is a rubber bushing on the inside and a ball joint on the outside mounting point. When the bushings on the arm wear out they can contribute to a 'wandering' or 'loose' or unstable feeling in the rear. There may also be a clunking noise associated with bumps. This arm is just one part of the rear suspension, and other parts should be checked to confirm which one is causing the issues. For a complete overhaul of the rear suspension, check out our rear control arm package here.

Replacement stock toe control arm (track strut) for the E82 1-series and E9X 3-series. The track strut controls the toe alignment of the rear suspension (whether the tire points in or out on a horizontal axis) It also helps to locate the suspension to the subframe. As the rubber bushings wear, the tire can actually drift in and out of alignment, resulting in a loose or unstable handling feel (especially when accelerating in a corner). This is the stock replacement that fits either the Left or Right side of the vehicle.

Replacement stock lower trailing arm for the E82 1-series and E9X 3-series. The trailing arm is also an impact arm, and is designed to bend if the wheel takes a major impact. It can also be bent by tow truck operators looking for something to hook onto. However it happens, if the trailing arm is bent it will throw off the alignment for the rear suspension. There are rubber bushings at either end that also wear but these can be replaced separately (new arm does not include new bushings). This is the stock replacement that fits either the Left or Ride side of the vehicle.

This is the main rear upper control arm (or wishbone) for the E39 5-series. It helps to locate the wheel hub and keep the alignment in check. It has an inner rubber bushing and outer ball joint. Since this is just one piece in the rear suspension you may also want to check the other rear control arms. Check out our Complete Overhaul Package here.
