TMS TAKING THE BATTLE TO THE END
Several Championships Left To Be Decided As Season Winds Down
MILLER MOTORSPORTS PARK, Tooele, UT - August 31, 2006 -
Turner Motorsport takes to the track again this week in pursuit of several championships in the Grand Am Cup series. The series is making its first appearance at the new Miller Motorsports Park near Salt Lake City, Utah. Practice and Qualifying are scheduled for today with another practice and the 200-mile/2.5 hour race tomorrow.
Will Turner and Don Salama came out on top of the Street Tuner class points standings after the last round at Trois-Rivieres, Quebec. Their #95 H&R Springs/Turner Motorsport BMW 330i has brought them a 6-race string of top-five finishes and they now lead the championship standings by four points.
In the Grand Sport category, Anders Hainer holds the third overall spot while his co-driver in the #97 H&R Springs/Under Armour BMW M3, Boris Said, is in seventh place overall. The #97 Under Armour M3 has had a strong year – only finishing out of the top ten once in eight races. Boris Said is back behind the wheel after taking a race off to drive in the NASCAR Nextel Cup series at Watkins Glen.
Bill Auberlen and Chris Gleason have sole control of fourth place from behind the wheel of their #96 H&R Springs/StopTech Brakes/Gleason Financial BMW M3. Auberlen and Gleason have scored two wins in 2006 but will need at least one more to overcome the 23-point deficit from first place. They remain confident in the capabilities of their BMW M3 and H&R Springs and StopTech Brakes.
Will Turner, team owner and pilot, #95 H&R Springs/Turner Motorsport BMW 330i:
“Our focus right now is just finishing high and ahead of our closest competition. In ST, a four point lead in the standings is nothing to stand on so we have to perform like we are the ones behind in the points, instead of leading the championship. In the GS class, our guys have nothing left to do but run as hard as they can and finish well. Points are all that matter now. I can’t praise our team enough – the Turner Motorsport crew has delivered excellent pit stops and strategy and our sponsors have come through with top notch equipment and support.”
Turner Motorsport enjoys close collaboration with their sponsors and technical partners. TMS is sponsored by H&R Springs, StopTech Brakes, B&M Racing, Borla Exhaust, Pagid Brake Pads, Motul Lubricants, and Piloti Driving Shoes.By working with these companies on and off the track, everyone wins.
The on-track activity for round 9 of the Grand Am Cup series gets underway today with Practice and Qualifying. Tomorrow’s race starts at 2:45pm (MST). It will be 200 miles or 2.5 hours around the new 4.5-mile Miller Motorsports Park. The SPEED Channel will carry coverage starting on September 23 at 1:00pm ET.
