    Top Five Finishes All Around

CALIFORNIA SPEEDWAY, FONTANA, CA - April 4, 2005 - Turner Motorsport/H&R Springs BMWs posted strong finishes in this past weekend’s 200-mile event held at California Speedway. The M3 of Bill Auberlen and Justin Marks finished in the fifth spot in the GS class. The #95 and #97 BMW 330s finished in the top five in the ST class with Will Turner and Don Salama earning the third spot on the podium.

In GS Qualifying, Justin Marks fell victim to an abbreviated timed session and did not get any hot laps into the record books. The ST class Qualifying went as well as expected for the BMW 330i drivers with Turner and Salama starting from seventh and Pappas and Pfeffer starting right next to them in eighth.

Drama unfolded before the race got underway as several cars, Justin Marks among them, were forced to avoid a slower car on the warm-up lap. Officials gave Marks a stop-and-go penalty for passing before the start-finish line. Undeterred, Marks pushed the M3 lap after lap to move back up the field. After handing off to Bill Auberlen, the M3 led the race for 16 laps but a late-race splash for fuel and problems with traffic dropped them to fifth place.

Bill Auberlen, #96 Turner Motorsport/H&R Springs BMW M3:
“With our result in qualifying all we could do was push, push, push. The M3 was up to the task and performed flawlessly. A little bad luck came our way but we did our best and the Turner Motorsport guys did awesome. The StopTech brakes on the M3 were one of the biggest reasons for our performance here. We’ll take this result and head to Laguna Seca feeling strong.”

Will Turner and Don Salama steadily improved as the race went on, moving up from seventh to second place at one point. Turner and Salama praised the consistent handling and braking of the car throughout the race. Only a late-race stop for fuel under the green flag kept them from a second-place finish.

Will Turner, team owner and driver, #95 Turner Motorsport/H&R Springs BMW 330i:
“The Turner Motorsport crew did an excellent job changing the setup on the cars to account for the extra 75lbs that the series gave us. The 330s were consistent and easy to drive as we steadily climbed up through the field. But we’re down on speed compared to some of the other cars and at a super-speedway like this it can really hurt us because we have to push harder than everyone else in the corners.”

Tim Pappas and Steve Pfeffer mirrored their teammate’s performance in the #97 Turner Motorsport/H&R Springs BMW 330i. Heading into this race, Pappas and Pfeffer were second in the overall ST class standings and their fourth-place result here preserved that spot. They trail the leaders by only five points.

The Turner Motorsport team receives support from H&R Springs, StopTech Brakes, B&M Racing, Borla, Red Line Oil, Pagid, Sunoco, Crocs, and Piloti Driving Shoes.
