Marks And Turner Fastest In GS And ST Qualifying For Sunday's Race
MID OHIO SPORTS CAR COURSE, Lexington, OH - August 28, 2005 - Turner Motorsport made history again in the Grand Am Cup series with dual poles in the GS and ST classes during Qualifying for today’s 200-mile race at Mid Ohio. Justin Marks scored his fifth GS pole of the year in the #96 Baker Sox/H&R Springs/Turner Motorsport BMW M3. Will Turner came through in the final stages of qualifying to win his second pole position of the season in the #95 H&R Springs/Borla Exhaust/Turner Motorsport BMW 330i.
Marks and co-driver Bill Auberlen will be on the hunt for points during the final three races of the season, starting here at Mid Ohio. Marks is currently second in the overall GS class points standings. First-place holder David Empringham will start behind the Baker Sox M3. Auberlen and Marks will be gunning for their fourth win of the year.
Will Turner snagged the pole during a Qualifying session that came down to the final few minutes. Turner earned the pole during last year’s race at Mid Ohio (finishing 2nd). Turner and co-driver Don Salama are in third place in a tightly contested race for the ST class championship. The close competition of the ST class means every small advantage counts and starting from the pole is a big step toward gaining ground on the Mazda RX-8 team.
The #97 H&R Springs/Turner Motorsport BMW 330i driven by Steve Pfeffer and Mike Fitzgerald will start from the second row.
