TURNER BMWs LOOK TO EXTEND WINNING STREAK AT VIR

After back-to-back GT wins and 3 consecutive GS podiums, the BMW M3 trio of Turner Motorsport is geared up for six races in four weeks.

The Turner Crew is Prepared for VIR Amesbury, MA --- May 11, 2011 --- Virginia International Raceway, in Danville, Va., is next up for Turner Motorsport as the GRAND-AM Rolex GT and Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge GS class leaders take their BMWs to one of North America's most beautiful and challenging road racing circuits.

There are two important goals for this weekend. First is to continue to keep two tough sports car racing classes behind them for a third consecutive GT win and a fourth consecutive GS podium (that include one victory) for Bill Auberlen and Paul Dalla Lana. Second, and equally important, is to leave VIR unscathed as this race is the first of three in the next four weeks.

While the 2011 season has not been a lucky one so far for Joey Hand and Michael Marsal in the No. 97 GS BMW M3, it was the race at VIR last year that started a three-podium streak for the duo, including wins at VIR and Lime Rock Park – the next track on the schedule.

To prepare for this weekend the team held a very productive test with the GS cars at Road America, in Elkhart Lake, Wis. The test was held in both wet and dry conditions giving the team very valuable set-up data that could be critical with the changeable spring weather conditions.

The weather is not the only uncertainty the team will face this weekend. For a second race in a row the series has mandated changes to the GT car that will the Turner Motorsport engineers busy in Friday's practice sessions. The M3 will race with an additional 50 pounds, a tighter upper rpm limit, and a four gallon fuel cell capacity reduction.

"VIR has always been a great track for Turner Motorsport, but the most recent competition adjustment that Grand AM has made to our M3 is going to hurt for sure," said Will Turner. "We are a little worried that the long straights at VIR are going to play into the hands of the competition, but we'll do everything we can to keep us out front."
