Amesbury, MA. July 6th, 2012 --Turner Motorsport finished off Grand-Ams grueling four-race month of June with excellent results for each of its three BMW M3s at Watkins Glen International. Bill Auberlen, Paul Dalla Lana and Billy Johnson drove the No. 94 Turner Motorsport BMW M3 to a second place finish in Sundays Rolex Sports Car Series Sahlens Six Hours of the Glen. The third consecutive podium finish sits on top of a seven race streak in which the car has not finished lower than fifth has moved the team to third in GT points. Saturday saw the No. 96 M3 of Auberlen and Dalla Lana finish eighth and the No. 97 M3 of Michael Marsal and Boris Said finish 10th in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge (CTSCC) Continental Tire 150. The result was the third time this season both Turner M3s scored a top-10 finish.
June was tough, but we were tougher, said Will Turner. We race the only BMW in the Rolex GT class and after a four race run of top-five finishes we have moved to the front of the class, winning at Mid-Ohio and taking two strong seconds at Road America and Watkins Glen. Our CTSCC program has not seen the success of last season, but Watkins Glen saw two top-10s. Most importantly, Michael Marsal got his first taste of leading a race. That was exciting to see.
The second half of the Grand-Am season holds five more Rolex races and three more CTSCC races that will include the first sports car races held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as the Grand Ams only race on the West Coast at Laguna Seca Raceway. The season will finish at Turner Motorsports home track Lime Rock Park, in Northwest, Connecticut.
Every Grand Am race, whether Rolex or Continental, gets more challenging as the season progresses, continued Turner. Nothing has come easy this season and that continues to make the Turner team stronger. Everyone did a great job at Watkins Glen.
The legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway is next up for Turner Motorsport. Live timing and scoring from practice, qualifying and both races can be found on grand-am.com. The Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge race takes the green flag a 1:00 p.m. and the Rolex Sports Car Series contest starts at 4:10 p.m. on July 27.
