Amesbury, MA. August 7th, 2012 --Turner Motorsport returns to Watkins Glen International this weekend for Continental Tire 200, the 10th round of the 2012 Rolex Sports Car Series. Differing from the Six Hours of the Glen run on July 1st, Saturdays race will be only two hours long and use the Glens 2.45-mile, 11-turn course as Grand Am shares the circuit with NASCAR this weekend.
Turner Motorsport drivers Paul Dalla Lana , Bill Auberlen and Billy Johnson finished second in Julys six-hour contest and, most recently, finished fourth at the Brickyard Grand Prix to continue the teams eight race streak of driving the #94 BMW M3 to nothing less than a fifth place finish. That streak now includes one win, two seconds, two fourths and three fifths. Those excellent results have boosted the Team and Dalla Lana to a three-way tie for third place points, only one point from second.
The Brickyard Grand Prix, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, also marked the start of Turner Motorsports 250th professional race with BMW to make the Amesbury, Mass-based team the second most prolific professional BMW racing team in the world.
It is great to start race number 251, but our focus is moving Paul to second in GT driver points, said Will Turner. In fact, because we have to run headlights at this race we turned down the offer from BMW of North America to run an in-car camera because the combined weight of both was more than our engineers were willing to accept. This is a short race and everything is critical even an extra 16 pounds.
Live timing and scoring from practice, qualifying and both races can be found on grand-am.com. The Continental Tire 200 takes the green flag at 6:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, August 11th and will be broadcast live on SPEED television.
