Amesbury, MA. August 13th, 2012 -- Turner Motorsport took their second GT class victory of the 2012 Rolex Sports Car Series Saturday evening at Watkins Glen International. The win in the two-hour Continental Tire 200 by Bill Auberlen and Paul Dalla Lana puts an exclamation point on the statement the team began to write six weeks ago when they finished second at the Sahlens Six Hours of the Glen. The victory moves Dalla Lana into sole possession of second place in GT driver points only 16 points from the lead. Turner Motorsport also moves to second in GT team points with three races remaining in the season.
We most definitely found the keys to the Glen following our test here earlier in the season, said Will Turner. Second place in the six hour race on the long course and a win in Saturdays sprint race on the short course prove that. We are definitely still in the championship hunt. Weve given BestRestaurantsInTown.com their first victory with Turner Motorsport and now theyll help us find the best spot for a victory dinner!
Paul Dalla Lana started the Continental Tire 200 from the eighth qualifying position and within 20 seconds of the waving of the green flag made perhaps the move of the race as two competitors collided ahead of him. Quickly choosing the right line through the narrow confines of the Glens turn one 90 degree right hander he avoided being collected and threaded his way through the mess. He continued to drive a strong stint, pitting for fuel under the races first caution period and moving up to second place before pitting to hand the No. 94 M3 off to Bill Auberlen on lap 26.
Auberlen had the lead on lap 58 and was able to make a well-timed pit stop during the races second caution period for fuel and tires on lap 59. Quick work by the crew put him back on the track still with the lead. His seven second lead was erased by the races third and final yellow flag, but a very strong restart with only a few minutes remaining give the team a well-deserved second GT class victory of the season.
The Montreal 200 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, is next up for Turner Motorsport. Live timing and scoring from practice, qualifying and the race can be found on grand-am.com. The two-hour race will take the green flag at 11:15 a.m. Saturday, August 18th and be broadcast on SPEED television at 7:00 p.m. ET.
