540i Replacement clutch kit. This is the OEM Sachs clutch kit and includes the three major components of the clutch system: clutch friction disc, pressure plate, and throw-out bearing. A clutch alignment tool is also included. BMW clutches are overbuilt - capable of handling additional torque but be user-friendly at the same time. However, this means that it can wear "qucikly" when the car is driven hard. When treated with consideration, there's no reason why the stock OEM clutch can't last 100+k miles. Although we are big proponents of sport clutches and lightweight flywheels, this OEM 540i clutch is the best option for 95% of our customers.
Since a lot has to be removed to access and replace the clutch, it's a good idea to consider servicing related parts and systems at the same time. The dual mass flywheel is typically good for only two clutch jobs (replace it every other time). The pilot bearing and rear main seal should also be replaced. With the transmission out, this is the perfect time to replace the input and output shaft seals (the latter is especially prone to leaking). If nothing is leaking then you may want to leave it alone. The shifter assembly, linkage, and transmission mounts could probably be improved. And then there are parts that need to be replaced anyway, such as exhaust gaskets, hangers, and hardware.
