TURNER MOTORSPORT CHIP IDENTIFICATION This list
will help you when you order one of our Performance Chips. BMW uses one
and sometimes many computers -- usually called an ECU or DME -- in their model ranges.
For instance, there are computers for
different engine sizes, production dates, and even different computers depending on if your car has a manual or automatic
transmission. All ECUs used by BMW begin with 0 261. This is
Bosch's designation as a Engine Control Unit. Review the requirements for your car carefully.
Turner Motorsport is always ready to help you if you need further
assistance (phone: 978-388-7769). E23 735i1985-87 735i · ECU number (last 3 digits end with 059 or 150). Note: the ECU is located in the passenger's footwell area behind the speaker. If your ECU is 0-261-200-059, we also need to know the number of pins on the original chip. You will need to open the ECU and count the pins on the removable chip! It is either a 24 or 28-pin chip located in a socket. Unfortunately there is no other way to identify the chip without opening the ECU. E24 635CSi/M6, E28 535i/is/M5

the plastic panel that makes up the "roof" of your glove box.
You only need to undo the two Phillips screws that fasten this panel or
"roof" to the dashboard. With the forward part of the
panel/"roof" undone you should be able to lower it enough to see
the ECU and read the ten-digit Bosch part number. A flashlight can
be helpful for reading the Bosch part number. The number starts with
0-261-200-XXX. If you need to take the computer off it’s bracket, a 10mm
socket and driver is required. ·

There is usually two-three silver boxes in the enclosure (depending on your model and optional equipment). Each silver box has a wiring harness/connector attached to it. It is not necessary at this time to disconnect these wiring harnesses. You may, however, have to remove each silver box until you come to the ECU.
