| Racing History: Returns to the Speedvision
Touring Car Championship for his third full season of competition in 2000
leading his Turner Motorsport team. 1999: Finished fourth in the Speedvision Touring Car Championship with 188 points and two wins (Grand Rapids, Pikes Peak). Turner proved that a "well prepared, well driven BMW" not only could run with the Acuras, but beat them. In Grand Rapids, Turner broke the 11 race Acura winning streak by taking his first World Challenge victory. Turner won again at race 1 at Pikes Peak, CO and took second place the next day in race 2. Previously: Began autocrossing a BMW in 1987. In 1992, moved to the SCCA Club Racing level, competing for five years in the ITE class in a BMW 328is. In 1996, won the NYSRRC ITS Championship. Also earned 16 class wins in SCCA competition. In 1998, finished runner-up in the T2 Rookie of the Year chase by a single point. Scored his first career podium finish at Road America (second). Finished the season with three top-fives (Trois-Rivieres, Road America and Watkins Glen) and eight top-10 finishes in eight starts. |
