VTT N54 Waste Gate Repair Kit / Rattle Fix Tired of the annoying N54 Wastegate Rattle? Turbos still going strong, but can't deal with the embarrassing rattle anymore? We have the perfect kit for you. This kit comes with 1 set (both turbos) of Stainless Steel wear matched bushing, and flapper assembly, Wastegate arm, rod end, and Stainless steel 8mm C clip. These parts custom made for VTT upgrade the flapper assembly to a full 12.6MM or 1/2" flapper arm, and bushing compared to the stock 11.5mm. They also get rid of the 6mm rod end connection to a full 8mm connection with a stainless steel C clip. There is no better N54 Waste Gate upgrade on the market, and guess what? We also offer them for less than other upgrades which use the stock bushing size, rod end, and inferior materials. If you want to fix this right the first time, this is the kit for you! *Please note, assembly is required. This kit can only be installed with the turbos removed from the vehicle, and stock wastegate assembly removed from the housing. The new assemblies will need to be pressed in, then welded by a qualified welder. We offer no warranty, or returns for improperly installed wastegate assemblies.

Ensure proper sealing when installing the turbos on your N54.

Kit includes:

  • 16 - ASA M7x39 studs
  • 16 - Flange nuts
  • All required gaskets and o-rings
  • Water pump install hardware
  • Replacement vacuum hose
  • T-bolt clamps

Helpful hints:

For complete installation instructions, refer to Haynes Service Manual (ES2500921).

Both downpipes must be removed to remove either front or rear turbo. Tie rod end may need to be separated from knuckle for clearance. Steering rack may also need to be rotated away from subframe for access. Valve cover heat shield will need to loosened and pushed upward to get clearance for turbo manifold removal.

If studs back out of cylinder head and nuts are seized to studs, replace studs. Thread studs in to head by hand to prevent cross threading. When installing the new studs in the cylinder head, use a high temperature loctite in the cylinder head side, and copper anti-seize on the nut side.

To make more room for access to the front turbo, remove the rubber line running in front of the subframe that attaches to the back of the map thermostat and remove the clip. Cut off the OEM clamp and replace it with a new hose clamp as well.

Complete removal of the water pump is not required. Detach the water pump from the side of the block and push it out of the way to make more room for access to the front turbo. If water pump is unbolted from the block, the aluminum bolts must be replaced.

Torque specs:
Bracket to cylinder head: 9Nm
Coolant supply line to crankcase: 9Nm
Coolant return line to crankcase: 8Nm
Coolant return line to turbo: 8Nm
Coolant supply line to supply line: 8Nm
Exhaust manifold heat shield: 8Nm
Oil supply line to crankcase: 20Nm
Oil pressure line to turbo: 8Nm
Oil return line to crankcase: 8Nm
Oil return line to turbo: 8Nm
Turbo manifold to head: 20Nm

Option 1. Direct OEM replacements - These are a direct replacement for the factory turbocharger. New or Reman bearing housing will be used, reman turbine wheel, reman factory compressor wheel. All brand new internals using the factory TD03 thrust assembly. $399

PLEASE NOTE: This is very important to be aware of. Replacement CHRA's DO NOT COME READY TO RUN. You must disassemble your old N54 turbochargers, and install the new CHRA's into your old housings. This can potentially be VERY difficult, damage to the new CHRA can occur very easily if care is not taken when performing the swap.

ALSO OF NOTE: These CHRA replacements WILL NOT help with any wastegate rattle, or worn watsgates, which can cause low boost conditions, sticky wastegates, etc. These are replacing ONLY the center section.

WARRANTY INFORMATION: Each VTT N54 CHRA comes with a 1 year limited, unlimited milage warranty to be free from defects. This warranty DOES NOT include damage caused by improper CHRA removal or installation, bent fins due to improper installation, foreign object damage due to improper installation. Basically you are installing these new CHRA's at your own risk. They are extremely fragile, if they are dropped, damaged in any way, before or during install, any and all warranties are null, and void.
