The new generation of BMW turbo engines suffer from both heatsoak-induced horsepower losses and boost-related stress and pressure failures. The plastic components can be a problem even at stock boost levels. When modifying the car and increasing boost, installing an upgraded intercooler is essential to keep temperatures down and minimize pressure loss. Another area that also needs attention is the stock chargepipe and diverter valve. When more boost is added these areas have proven to be the first to show problems. If the diverter valves fail, you lose precious boost and horsepower, rendering your upgrade worthless. Our products are designed to be stronger and more durable than the factory components to a) keep your boost levels where you want, and b) protect other internal turbo-related components from boost damage.

All of the tuning in the world is only as good as the weakest link. More boost in your 135/335 is great! But you will soon learn that some of the factory hardware is not up to the task of handling that extra pressure. One of the first things to fail and cause a boost leak are the factory boost diverter valves. This allows boost to "leak" out of the intake stream and a loss of power from the engine. This ECS Tuning chargepipe upgrade includes a blow-off valve in place of the factory diverter valves. The BOV is higher quality than the diverter valves and will exit intake air to the outside instead of putting it back through the turbo system (which will reduce strain on the turbos). This aluminum chargepipe is also much more robust than the stock plastic factory pipe and the connection to the throttle body is stronger, eliminating another failure point of the stock pipe.

Built-in 1/8" NPT ports allow you to run an additional methanol injection kit (bungs included if you don't want use the ports).

Forge Motorsport presents their newest diverter valve, designed specifically BMW's N54 engine. BMW utilized a very different type of valve connection mechanism that makes their product and Forge's replacement component unique. Forge started with their own 007P piston-based design and designed an entirely new valve body to retain BMWaEURtms unique connection mechanism. This diverter valve is fully tunable for both boost-holding capacity and response using Forge's proprietary interchangeable springs and shims. This approach to valve tuning retains optimum piston travel and flow volume, regardless of spring rate.

The included flexible and reinforced multi-layer silicone hoses are designed to allow compatibility with the stock airbox and charge piping. The hose clamps are designed specifically for silicone hoses, featuring beveled edges and a pressed drive mechanism.

In addition to the weak stock chargepipe, the factory N54 diverter valves can also be a source for boost leaks. The diverter valve takes overboost and re-directs it back through the intake and turbos instead of allowing it to pass into the intake manifold. It's the same as a blow off valve (BOV) but instead of releasing into the engine bay, it stays contained to the engine. The stock diverter valves (DV) are plastic and connect with more plastic into the chargepipe and turbo inlet pipes. The plastic can become brittle and crack even on stock engines and leak boost, which leads to a loss in power and performance.

Turbosmart has developed two kits to replace and upgrade the stock diverter valves - a direct replacement kit (shown) and a combination DV/BOV "Dual Port" kit. This direct replacement kit includes new high-performance DV and stronger silicone hose to connect them to the turbo inlet pipes (Vargas silicone inlets are recommended). The Turbosmart Kompact DV will give you all of the strength and reliability you need to take your turbo build to the next level.

If you're looking to read actual boost levels, there is no better adapter kit for an auxiliary boost sensor than this one. Dinan uses this sensor adapter on all of their R&D vehicles to measure boost pressure where it matters most - at the factory location in the intake charge pipe. With this kit you can easily attach an auxiliary boost sensor and run your stock sensor at the same time. Reading the boost at the factory location means you see the same data that the ECU does.
