TURNER BMW RETURNS TO LAGUNA SECA WITH HIGH HOPES

Salinas, CA. – May 1st, 2015 -- The blue and yellow Turner BMW Z4 returns to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca with high hopes of repeating last year’s exciting nail-biting victory on the 2.238 mile 11-turn circuit nestled in the rolling hills just outside Monterey, California.

One year ago, almost to the day, Dane Cameron and Markus Palttala drove their No. 94 GTD class BMW to an exciting victory after an alternate strategy paid off when the leader ran out of fuel with just one lap remaining in the two-hour contest. The victory marked the first GTD class win for the driver duo as well as the first GT category victory for the BMW Z4 GTD on North American soil.

This year, for round three of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, Markus Palttala will return to the famed corkscrew of Laguna Seca with co-driver Michael Marsal carrying high hopes to capture the first podium finish on the 2015 season.

Both Marsal and Palttala enter this weekend’s race with podium finishes in each of their last GT class appearances at Laguna Seca. While Palttala drove the No. 94 GTD class BMW to victory in 2014, Marsal drove the No. 93 GT class BMW M3 to a second place podium finish in 2013.

“It’s great to be back at Laguna. The GTD class BMW of Markus (Palttala) and Dane (Cameron) was competitive here last year and with some recent IMSA AoP adjustments I think we should be in a good position to do well again this year,” said Michael Marsal.

As part of IMSA’s recent AoP adjustments released last week, the No. 97 BMW Z4 will see a weight reduction of 25 kg, a restrictor increase of 19mm and will also be required to run the double dive planes on the front bumper.

“Although our BMW is still considerably heavier than it was last year at Laguna I think these recent AoP adjustments are a step in the right direction,” added Will Turner. “With Sebring and Daytona behind us, we are hopeful that our BMW will be competitive this weekend and with some luck get on the podium again.”

With a twelfth place finish in the 24 Hours of Daytona and a seventh place finish in the 12 Hours of Sebring battling with a huge deficit in performance, Marsal and Palttala remain hopeful, setting their sights on a top five finish here this weekend.

“I am excited be back at Laguna Seca. Last year our Turner BMW was extremely well set up for the unique twists and turns of this track,” said Markus Palttala. “I am optimistic that we will see an improvement in the first practice session here today with our now lighter BMW Z4 and we can use what we learned last year to put our No. 97 on the top of the charts.”

On track action kicks off today at 2:30pm EST with the first Tudor Championship practice session. Qualifying for the 13-car GTD field will be on Saturday evening from 7:15pm-7:30pm EST and can be watched LIVE on IMSA.com.

Round three of the Tudor United SportsCar Championship will kick off on Sunday, May 3rd at 4:05pm EST televised LIVE on Fox Sports 1. Join the conversation on social media with Turner Motorsport.
