Amesbury, MA. – October 5th, 2015 --Extreme wet and rainy conditions set the stage for Saturday’s 18th running of the Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta with torrential rain and ever-changing track conditions for the final race of the 2015 Tudor United SportsCar Championship.

The 2.54-mile road course in Braselton, Georgia saw significant rainfall from green flag to checkered, ultimately forcing IMSA to throw a “surprise” checkered flag with two hours and eight minutes remaining in scheduled ten-hour event.

One year ago almost to the day, Turner Motorsport clinched the 2014 GTD Championship and first (and only) North American racing Championship for the BMW Z4 GT platform.

This year, Turner Motorsport drivers Michael Marsal, Markus Palttala, Andy Priaulx and Billy Johnson successfully navigated the No. 97 IHG Rewards Club BMW through the seven-hour-and-fifty-two-minute contest to finish an unfulfilling eleventh place in GT Daytona.

Michael Marsal took the green flag behind the wheel of the No. 97 BMW Z4 to complete a hazardous one and a half hour stint to hand the Turner BMW over to co-driver Billy Johnson after the first pit stop.

Johnson continued on, battling standing water and extremely difficult track conditions, forced onto pit lane after contact by a PC car punctured the right rear tire, briefly sending Johnson off track.

With Andy Priaulx in the No. 97 BMW, the team pushed to regain position only to be hindered by the frequent yellow flags and track maintenance.

Following the red flag, Priaulx continued on in the ever-worsening conditions to take the unexpected checkered flag just before a planned driver change for Markus Palttala.

“It was just wild out there,” commented Michael Marsal. “This race was by far the most challenging race I have ever competed in. I’m proud of our guys (both crew and drivers) for sticking it out to get our BMW across the finish line.”

With the final race of the 2015 Tudor Championship complete, Turner Motorsport turns the focus onto 2016 ready to embrace the new BMW M6 GT3.

“We have had a great season this year with a win at Lime Rock and a podium at COTA, I want to thank everyone who made it possible,” added Marsal. “With my sixth season of racing BMWs with Turner in the books, I am very excited for next year with the M6. Bring on 2016!”

“The Z4 has been a fantastic car for us, it’s bittersweet to see it compete in its last race,” added Will Turner. “We have had a lot of success with this car so we are really looking forward to getting our hands on the new M6 to continue on our success with BMW.”

In just two seasons of racing in the Tudor Championship, Turner Motorsport tallied five wins, seven podiums and sixteen top ten finishes with the BMW Z4.

With 330 total professional race starts with BMW Turner Motorsport looks to continue the highly successful and long standing run behind the blue and white roundel next season with the all-new BMW M6 GT3.
