Amesbury, MA. – March 22th, 2016 -- The No. 96 Turner BMW M6 GT3 captures an impressive second place finish in a grueling 12 Hours of Sebring inundated with varied weather conditions on the already challenging surface of the 3.74-mile 17-turn road course.

Bret Curtis, Jens Klingmann and Ashley Freiburg battled their way to the front of the GTD field with impressive performances by the entire driver lineup after beginning the 12 hour endurance contest from the third position.

With just thirty minutes remaining in the race, both of the Turner BMW sat one and two to lead the GTD field. Following a late yellow with thirty minutes remaining, both Jens Klingmann in the No. 96 and Jesse Krohn in the No. 97 had fierce battles with hard charging Porsche and Ferrari.

Following the restart with 20 minutes remaining on the clock, Jens Klingmann pushed his BMW to the limit in an effort to stay out ahead of the No. 63 ultimately falling back to second to take the checkered flag.

A strategy call allowed the Turner BMWs to pit only once inside the final two hours while most entries had to make three pit stops to top off fuel, putting both cars inside the top-five to battle for the podium in the final hour.

“The conditions were really tough with changing conditions between hard and intermittent rain at different times throughout the entire race,” said Bret Curtis. “It feels terrific that we were able to pull off a second place finish with so much solid competition out there. The BMW M6 GT3 performed flawlessly and the Turner crew were strong on every single pit stop as well as strategy call.  The drivers kept the car in the game and Jens brought it home on the podium.  Incredible result in a very tough race.”

The strong finish for the No. 96 IHG Rewards Club M6 GT3 puts the entry inside the top-ten in Championship points just ten points outside of the top-three and 5 points back from the No. 97 Alvarez & Marsal M6 GT3.

“Second place is a great result after a difficult race with many up and downs,” said Jens Klingmann. “We've been working very hard to put ourselves in the position to fight for the victory but I wasn't able to defend first place due to a lack of top speed. Still it was a hard fight and the team did a great with our strategy so I am very happy to get the first podium for the BMW M6 GT3 in our second race.”

Ashley Freiberg added, “What an incredible job done by everyone at Turner Motorsport and BMW Motorsport. It was clear we didn't have the straight line speed, but we fought hard with great strategy, strong pit stops and driving, and a great car setup. I am so proud of everyone involved. Even though we had a taste of the win, I think finishing second is pretty amazing!”

With a seventh place finish, the No. 97 of Michael Marsal, Markus Palttala and Jesse Krohn recorded crucial points to put their blue and yellow BMW in fourth in Championship points.

Michael Marsal completed an impressive early double stint behind the wheel of his M6 GT3 battling through severe weather and challenging track conditions.

Michael Marsal commented, “First off I want to congratulate the entire No. 96 team, they did an awesome job to clinch that second place finish and first ever podium for the new M6. We had a strong race and I am very happy with both Markus (Palttala) and Jesse’s (Krohn) performances. We were able to take away solid points to put ourselves in good position going into Laguna Seca.”

The Turner BMWs will be back in action April 29th for the third round of the 2016 WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at the iconic Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
