CHALLENGING SIX HOURS OF THE GLEN FOR TURNER BMWS; FOCUS TURNS TO ROUND SIX AT CTMP

Amesbury, MA. – July 5th, 2016 -- Following strong performances in practice and qualifying, both Turner Motorsport M6 GT3s faced strong adversity early on in Sunday's Sahlen's Six Hours of the Glen.

Michael Marsal and Bret Curtis both displayed quick pace in their opening stints to battle within the top ten of the GTD field to kick off round five of the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship on the 3.40-mile, 11-turn, newly paved surface at Watkins Glen International.

At the 32-minute mark, Michael Marsal was forced into the pits after making contact with the wall in turn 11, ultimately being forced behind the wall for repairs.

Bret Curtis continued on in the No. 96 M6 GT3 to take the lead after fifty minutes following fantastic pit stop performance by the crew to take four tires and fuel allowing Curtis to beat the entire GTD field out of pit lane to take the lead.

With an impressive drive, Curtis was able to hold the lead for close to twenty minutes before facing a loss of power which forced him into pit lane and ultimately behind the wall to the paddock for repairs.

At the 1-hour-and-30-minute mark, Michael Marsal was able to rejoin the competition after lengthy suspension repairs were made on his No. 97 M6 GT3 in the garage.

Ultimately, Marsal was able to make up several positions before handing the car over to Markus Palttala with attrition beginning to set in over the GTD field. Palttala was able to battle through the final three hours to regain additional positions to finish tenth in class.

"We really had a very competitive car here at the Glen so it's too bad we went down so many laps early on in the race," commented Michael Marsal. "The team did an amazing job at making the necessary repairs and getting the car back on track."

Marsal added, "Markus (Palttala) was able to stay determined and make up a couple positions to finish tenth which allows us to capture valuable championship points,"

The No. 96 was able to rejoin competition for a short time after repairs were made to damaged vacuum hoses but continued to struggle from terminal issues that ultimately prevented the car from finishing the race.

"We had two great cars going into this race so it's always challenging when things don't go as planned," said Will Turner. "Watkins Glen is one of those tracks we always look forward to and really enjoy racing at so it's too bad we were not able to show the true potential of our M6 GT3s this weekend,"

With round five at Watkins Glen in the books, the Turner Motorsport BMW M6 GT3s sit seventh and eighth in Championship points with the No. 97 of Marsal and Palttala edging out the No. 96 from a tie for eighth after Detroit last month.

The Turner Motorsport team turns to round six at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmansville, Ontario, Canada this weekend. Curtis was able to get seat time at the 2.459-mile, 10-turn circuit behind the wheel of his M6 GT3 earlier this year for a single Pirelli World Challenge race.

The Mobil 1 Grand Prix will be televised live on Fox Sports 1 at 11:00am EST on Sunday, July 10th 2016.
