HARD FOUGHT BATTLE AT ROAD AMERICA YIELDS TWO TOP-TEN RESULTS FOR TURNER BMWs

Amesbury, MA. – August 9th, 2016 --The Two Turner BMW M6 GT3s recorded two top-ten finishes in the two-hour and forty-minute Continental Tire Road Race Showcase at Road America on Sunday.

Both the No. 96 of Bret Curtis and Jens Klingmann as well as the No. 97 of Michael Marsal and Markus Palttala battled inside an extremely competitive GTD field on the 4.048-mile 14-Turn road course to finish seventh and ninth.

Drivers Bret Curtis and Michael Marsal took the green flag and quickly settled into a rhythm to work their way inside the top ten from their tenth and eleventh starting positions.

Following the first full-course caution at the twenty-minute mark, the No. 97 Alvarez & Marsal M6 GT3 or Marsal was called into the pits for a quick fuel-only stop as part of a strategy decision while the No. 96 of Curtis remained on track.

Just after the fifty-minute mark, Marsal dove into pit-lane under green for a pit stop with driver change for Markus Palttala in the No. 97 followed by Curtis pitting for driver change for Jens Klingmann in the No. 96.

With the top-ten GTD entries recording lap times within less than one second of each other, Klingmann and Palttala pushed to make up position to ultimately finish the race in seventh and ninth place respectively.

"We had a good car here at Road America but ultimately did not have the edge that some of these cars had here," Palttala said. "With all the GTD cars so close in pace, it made it very difficult to pass, especially with the long straights at Road America. Cars like the Viper and Lamborghini had the edge there."

With the seventh place finish, the No. 96 IHG Rewards Club BMW of Curtis and Klingmann remains in sixth place in the Championship points standings. The No. 97 of Marsal and Palttala sits eleventh in the team points standings.

"Jens (Klingmann) and I both pushed as hard as we could to fight for position but we were just unable to make up any ground," Curtis said. "Overall we had a very good race with no mistakes, a good setup on the car and very good pit stops but just couldn't manage a top-five or podium finish. I don't think Road America particularly played into the strengths of the M6 GT3 so we are definitely looking forward to ViR."

With round eight in the books, Turner Motorsport looks to Virginia International Raceway for the next round of the 2016 WeatherTech Championship. The two-hour and forty-minute GT only race will take place on Sunday, August 28th at 1:30pm ET on the 3.27-mile 17-turn road course.
