Amesbury, MA. -- July 18th, 2017 -- Following what looked like a strong start for the No. 96 Turner Motorsport M6 GT3 in Saturday’s Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park, Jens Klingmann and Jesse Krohn finished fourteenth after an unfortunate series of events.

Klingmann took the green flag from the fourth position after a solid qualifying performance to kick off the two-hour and forty-minute race on the 1.5-mile 7-corner circuit to mark round 8 of the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

Klingmann went on to make an impressive pass to take third position after just a couple laps into the race before making an early pit stop at the 25-minute mark as part of a strategy call for tires and fuel dropping back to fourteenth position.

As the rest of the GTD field cycled through the pits for fuel, driver changes and tires, Klingmann regained position ultimately taking the lead with about 50 minutes completed.

Shortly after Klingmann took the lead, the twelfth place No. 33 Mercedes of Bleekemolen entered turn 1 from pit lane on cold tires just in front of the No. 96. Klingmann and Bleekemolen battled through turns 3 and 4 with the No. 75 of Vautier on their heels.

As Klingmann and Bleekemolen entered the chicane, Vautier, who was a lap down, went to the outside to attempt a questionable pass on both the 96 and 33 ultimately spinning himself out. As a result the No. 96 of Klingmann was given a drive thru penalty.

The questionable call made by race control to serve a drive thru penalty for responsibility in the racing incident entering the chicane ultimately resulted in Klingmann dropping back to fourteenth place.

Shortly after the penalty was served, Jesse Krohn was put in to complete his stint from fourteenth place after first being forced to the paddock for a rear shock repair.

Krohn continued on with a clean stint to cross the finish line in fourteenth position as the clock reached the two-hour and forty-minute mark.

“We had a solid car and with the early strategy calls, we were in a great position for a strong finish.” Klingmann said. “The racing contact and subsequent drive thru really is disappointing so it’s too bad we couldn’t have a cleaner race. We are very much looking forward to Road America in just ten days.”

Turner Motorsport will be headed to the National Park of Speed in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin for round nine on August 5th and 6th for the Continental Tire Road Race Showcase. Stay tuned as the team prepares for the next round of the 2017 WeatherTech Championship.
