TURNER BMW WITH LESS-THAN-DESIREABLE RESULTS OVER THE BORDER AT CANADIAN TIRE MOTORSPORT PARK.

Amesbury, MA -- July 9th, 2018 -- The Turner Motorsport BMW M6 GT3 of Bill Auberlen and Robby Foley entered this past weekend with winning momentum after the team’s big victory at Watkins Glen International last week in round five of the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

The duo of Auberlen and Foley topped the charts in the weekend’s first practice session on the 2.4-mil 10-turn circuit before qualifying seventh just tenths out of the top three GTD leaders.

In Sunday’s race, Foley took the green flag to complete a competitive opening stint in his second appearance behind the wheel of the No. 96 BMW M6 GT3. Foley was able to make up one position on the very hard-to-pass Canadian Tire Motorsport Park before handing the car over to Auberlen in sixth.

“I had a good start pushing to keep pace with the leaders while also working to conserve on fuel,” said Robby Foley. “I know I needed to work hard to keep our BMW in good position to allow our strategy calls to play out.”

Auberlen continued to charge his way toward the front of the GTD field with the help of a clever strategy call by Team Strategist Don Salama to make a short fuel stop with two tires. The strategy put the No. 96 Turner BMW off cycle from much of the GTD field allowing the team to stop one less time than most of the field.

With just over one hour remaining, Auberlen sat in sixth just two seconds from the to-be leader after the final round of pit stops.

Auberlen worked to maintain a consistent pace to maintain position to strike until contact by a lap down Porsche sent the No. 96 of Auberlen into a spin, resulting in broken suspension and ending the strong race early for the team.

“Although the end result was a disappointment for the entire team, I am very happy with our performance and strategy calls as a whole.” Said Will Turner. “I think we were very well prepared for this race in every way but at the end of the day, you just can’t control everything that happens on track, some days it goes in your favor and some days it doesn’t.”

The No. 96 BMW finished eleventh place after being retired from the race.

The team will now prepare for their “Home Town Race” at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, CT on just two weeks on July 21st which will mark race number seven on the 2018 WeatherTech SportsCar Championship schedule for GTD.
