Offered by OEM Schaeffler, this bearing replaces BMW part number 12311739203, which is found in numerous BMW alternators manufactured prior to 1996. This bearing helps to stabilize the shaft of the alternator, allowing it to spin freely. If you are experiencing a loud squeaking or grinding noise from your alternator, there is a good chance one of the internal bearings has failed and needs to be replaced.
