Valve stem caps protect the tires air valve from damage and keeps the area free of dirt and road grime. When dirt and dust work its way into the tiny valve seat, it can create pressure on the assembly and cause a slight air leak. Over time, this may present itself as a 'slow leak' and you may find yourself continually adding air, in turn forcing more dirt into the valve and inside the tire. This leads to a constant fluctuation in pressure that wreaks havoc on the tread surface causing uneven or irregular wear, vibration, and excess noise.
