This crankshaft position sensor (CPS) provides the engine computer with engine speed data via the harmonic balancer. It mounts off the engine block and reads the front crank pulley to tell the engine what position the engine internals are in. This sensor is crucial for starting the car as the ECU will not allow the engine to start without this signal.

The crankshaft position sensor measures the speed at which the crank is turning and adjusts fueling via the ECU to match. If it fails, your computer will not know the speed and will fuel it improperly. Replace yours with a Bosch unit to get your computer reading everything properly again. Installs exactly in the place of your old sensor and will eliminate your car's idle, performance, and misfiring problems.
