The water pump is a known failure point on most BMWs, new and old. Older model BMWs come from the factory with a mechanical fan that features a plastic impeller. If your BMW still has a water pump with a plastic impeller, you should upgrade to one with a metal impeller to avoid future failure. New BMWs utilize an electric water pump that cost BMW millions of dollars to design - when it is working it is great, unfortunately these fail so regularly that we recommend replacing your electric water pump every 60,000 miles to avoid stranding yourself on the side of the road. Turner Motorsport has spent years behind the wheel of modified N54-powered BMWs, and we've figured out what it takes to keep your N54 cool and happy. Using a combination of in-house designed parts and carefully-selected aftermarket components, we've put together an all-inclusive package that will allow you to replace your water pump and beef up your cooling system at the same time. Here's what's included: New water pump with replacement screws New thermostat Billet thermostat hose adapter (a great replacement for the stock, crack-prone plastic part!) Silicone coolant outlet hose Aluminized silicone water pump hose (aluminized for heat resistance to stay cool!) Heavy Duty aluminum coolant bleed screw (replace the strip-prone plastic screw!) The stock thermostat is designed to open at 97C. This leaves your engine running fairly hot, and running for quite awhile before your thermostat will begin operation. With the Mishimoto Racing thermostat, the activation temperature becomes 74C. That's 23C cooler, meaning you can rest easy knowing your engine will stay cooler to help avoid all the problems that can be associated with an engine running hot. If your water pump is starting to fail, you may notice coolant leaks, or even hear a whining noise coming from under the hood. If you think your water pump is starting to fail, replace it as soon as you can. The main downside to an electric water pump is you may also notice nothing - nothing but overheating! Keep your eyes peeled for warning signs it may be time to replace your water pump. N54 and N55 engines are prone to water pump failure - replace every 60,000 miles. Comes with electric water pump and installation hardware. Aluminum mounting bolts are one time use. Replace every time the water pump is removed.

This is the coolant return pipe on the back of the water pump on the N62 and N73 engines used in the E53 X5, E60 545/550, E63 645/650, E65 745/750, E70 X5, and F02 750. This pipe connects the water pump to the valley pan and it's a compression fitting (no o-rings). Whenever the water pump or valley pan are replaced this tube should also be replaced. This is one area where you don't want to go back and re-do your work because of a leaking fitting! In German, Rein means Pure.
