A common cause of check engine light and limp mode after running the car hard. Restarting the car commonly clears the code and/or limp mode. Two different problem codes, 2A87 "Outlet-Vanos variable cam control test" and "2A82 Inlet-Vanos variable cam control test", are thrown indicating the possibility of various VANOS-related problems. If a solenoid valve needs to be replaced, this part is appropriate for both situations, outlet and inlet. Two required per car.

All of these lead to the possibility of the timing chain jumping teeth on the sprockets, causing your timing to shift. The guide rails in your timing set keep everything tracking properly. Because it is made out of a plastic-like material, years of abrasion can wear parts of it away. This can cause the chain can to become slightly loose and cause a chain 'slap' or rattle noise. Replace your damaged timing chain tensioner and guide rails to keep timing chain noise to a minimum. Located on the outside of the timing chain guide that keeps tension on the chain.
