The camshafts are responsible for opening and closing the valves in time with the movement of the pistons. Sometimes the lobes can become worn or scored, necessitating a replacement of the entire shaft. Performance options are also available with more aggressive cam profiles that allow increased lift and duration.

The eccentric shaft is an important component of BMW's Valvetronic system, a form of variable valve lift control. If the teeth on the gear or the lobes have worn out, this can result in improper valve lift, decreased or abnormal performance, and even damage to cylinder head components. Replace your eccentric shaft with this high-quality part from OEM Kolbenschmidt to restore performance and eliminate valve lift issues without the marked-up price of a Genuine BMW eccentric shaft.

This eccentric shaft is a vital component of your BMW's N55 Valvetronic system, responsible for precise control of valve lift. In the N55 engine, the Valvetronic system uses intermediate levers between the camshaft and lifters to adjust valve lift dynamically. These levers are actuated by this eccentric shaft, which is rotated by an electronically controlled motor under the direction of the engine computer.

Eccentric shaft failure is a common issue in N55 engines, often caused by inadequate lubrication due to extended oil change intervals. The most frequent failure occurs when the eccentric shaft gear wears down, leading to disengagement from the motor's worm drive. Symptoms include multiple fault codes, such as P1014 (Shaft Parity Error), P1017 (Shaft Sensor Plausibility), P1023 (Valvetronic Adjustment Range), and P10E1 (Valvetronic System No Travel Detected).

If your BMW is experiencing Valvetronic-related fault codes, a failing eccentric shaft could be the source of the problem. Opt for this premium direct replacement from Bremmen Parts to restore your Valvetronic system's functionality and ensure a durable, high-quality repair.
