BMW Cooling System Parts & Accessories for BMW 3 Series F31 (2014+)

The cooling system is arguably the weakest point in numerous BMWs. If you drive an aging BMW or plan on taking your car to the track like we do, we recommend beefing up your cooling system before going to the track. Generally, the main components in your cooling system that are prone to failure include the following: expansion tank, factory hoses, water pump, thermostat, fan (especially if your vehicle comes factory with a clutch fan), and radiator. Factory BMW expansion tanks are plastic and prone to either breaking off at connection points or combusting. As factory rubber hoses age they either crack or break over time - we offer silicone cooling hose upgrades for most applications to avoid future failures. If you have an older vehicle, your water pump likely comes from the factory with a plastic impeller - we offer upgraded water pumps with metal impellers that are far more reliable. Newer model BMWs utilize electric water pumps - BMW spent millions of dollars engineering these water pumps, but they fail so often that we recommend replacing at 60,000 mile service intervals to avoid being stranded on the side of the road. In terms of thermostats, we offer various upgraded thermostats for racing applications. If your BMW utilizes a clutch fan from the factory, we have several options available in terms of universal electric fans - we recommend replacing these to avoid sending brittle plastic fan blades through your hood. For radiators, we recommend swapping out your radiator for one that does not use plastic connection points like your factory radiator.

The N20/n26 engined cars already suffer from reduced cooling area because of the factory intercooler, tight space under the hood, and of course heat from the turbo(s). BMW addressed these challenges a number of ways, including a dynamic, 'smart' electric water pump with increased output compared to normally aspirated models. The cooling demands mean additional stress on the major cooling components, especially the water pump and thermostat.

BMW's cooling system has long been a known weak spot, with the water pump and thermostat being two of the most common trouble areas. This remains true even in the latest B-Series engines found in 2016 and newer BMW models. This kit includes a brand-new OEM Pierburg water pump, a Bremmen thermostat (now referred to as a Heat Management Module), and one gallon of BMW's G48 coolant concentrate (enough to make two gallons of 50/50 coolant). Avoid spending thousands at the dealership or over $600 on Genuine BMW parts! These components can be replaced with high-quality OEM parts in just an afternoon using basic hand tools.

Genuine BMW expansion tanks have a bad habit of failing after a few years. This has primarily been caused by the plastic construction of the expansion tanks. After enough heat cycles, the plastic becomes brittle and can crack, causing coolant to leak out and air to enter the coolant system. The factory B4x/B58 heat exchanger is not built to cater to the rigorous demands often associated with a modified build. The thin core is easily overwhelmed with IAT's rising dramatically once pushed beyond a few successive WOT pulls or even a few minutes at the track. This elevation in temperature gives way to the factory ECU fail safes pulling timing and reducing overall power in order to keep the system from overheating to the point of permanent damage. On an application where enjoyment is directly attributed to pushing the platform to its limits this constraint to cooling presents a challenge for the automotive enthusiast. The Dinan B4x/B58 heat exchanger for the F2x/F3x chassis assists in mitigating these issues with a more robust core (48mm thick Dinan core vs. 27mm thick OEM core) that wields 78% more heat transfer surface area for improved cooling capacity. The significant increase in core thickness requires unique "L" shaped end tanks to be incorporated as well, which also contributes to the overall thermal mass (ability to absorb, store, and release heat) improvement beyond the OEM setup. With up to a 15° IAT delta recorded over stock the Dinan heat exchanger is ready, and able, to assist in extending your vehicles ability to deliver maximum performance time and time again for your driving enjoyment! Features: Average of 8° reduction in IAT's with a maximum reduction of 15° over 15 successive WOT pulls Reduces the tendency to heat soak / go in to limp mode 48mm thick Dinan cooler vs. 27mm thick stock cooler 78% more cooling surface area and volume than stock 100% TIG welded and pressure tested Installation hardware included (inclusive of xDrive specific transmission oil cooler brackets) NOTE: Due to the enlarged core and unique "L" shaped endtanks minor modification to the plastic core stack shroud may be required with some factory configurations ( particularly those with the optional OEM hot climate heat exchanger).
