Transmission fluid is responsible for both cooling and lubricating sensitive transmission components. Over time, this fluid becomes contaminated by particulate from clutch and gear components wearing down. This contamination reduces the fluid's ability to act as a lubricant, eventually leading to increased wear and tear within the transmission. To prevent excess wear and keep your transmission in top shape, the fluid and filter should be replaced regularly. As per ZF's recommendations, we suggest performing a full service on your 8HP automatic transmission every 50,000 miles. If your vehicle has been modified to produce more power than stock or if it is regularly track-driven, we recommend shorter 30,000-mile service intervals. This will ensure your transmission's fluid is free from contamination, which will help extend the life of internal transmission components, such as clutch packs and solenoids.

If you are servicing your DCT transmission and need to remove the pan, it is always a good idea to replace the gasket at this time. Reusing gaskets can often result in leaks as gaskets tend to compress over time, leading to a sub-par seal after the pan is reinstalled.
