The water pump is a known failure point on most BMWs, new and old. Older model BMWs come from the factory with a mechanical fan that features a plastic impeller. If your BMW still has a water pump with a plastic impeller, you should upgrade to one with a metal impeller to avoid future failure. New BMWs utilize an electric water pump that cost BMW millions of dollars to design - when it is working it is great, unfortunately these fail so regularly that we recommend replacing your electric water pump every 60,000 miles to avoid stranding yourself on the side of the road. Auxillary water pumps are electric water pumps that pump coolant to critical components of your BMW. A failing pump can cause excessive noise and intermittent cooling issues, leading to potential damage if not replaced quickly enough. Mechanical water pumps circulate coolant between the engine block, cylinder head, and radiators. Over time, the seals and bearings can wear out, leading to leaks from the impeller shaft and around the pump face. Some BMW water pumps have even had imellers that come loose from the shaft, resulting in little or no coolant flow. Plastic coolant flanges attached to the housing can become brittle over time, cracking or breaking off completely, leading to coolant loss and overheating. Restore cooling functionality and performance with a brand new pump directly from BMW. This coolant pump assembly includes the pump, the coolant support housing, four of the plastic coolant flanges, and a new water pump pulley.

The cooling system has always been a weak point for BMW. Two of the biggest issues are the water pump and thermostat. This continues to be true even on the newest B-Series engines found in 2016+ BMWs. This kit includes a brand new Genuine BMW water pump, a new thermostat (now referred to as a Heat Management Module), and 1 gallon of BMW's G48 coolant concentrate (makes 2 gallons of 50/50 coolant). Don't spend thousands of dollars at the dealership, these can easily be replaced in an afternoon with basic mechanic's tools.
