The factory BMW cooling components just aren’t built for high-performance or track use. Both the OE radiator and heat exchanger feature weak plastic end tanks and undersized single-row cores—common failure points when exposed to elevated heat and pressure. ECS set out to solve these shortcomings with an all-aluminum, dual-row system designed for enthusiasts who demand more from their BMW. ECS engineers started by replacing the fragile plastic end tanks with TIG-welded 6061-T6 aluminum for unmatched durability. Each tank is precision-crafted with CNC-machined billet aluminum hose connections, flanges, and brackets, ensuring direct OE-style fitment with the factory hoses, fan shroud, and accessories—no cutting or modifications required.

Both the radiator and heat exchanger feature high-capacity, dual-row 42mm cores, a massive improvement over the factory’s 34mm and 25mm single-row designs. The result? Faster heat dissipation, lower intake air temperatures, and more consistent performance, whether you’re cruising or carving apexes.

This ECS intercooler replaces the stock MINIature intercooler with a MASSIVE 250% larger surface area and a 125% thicker base core! This increase in core size improves flow while cooling compressed air into the intake manifold. Cast aluminum end tanks are TIG welded and feature machined transitions for maximum flow. This intercooler features a special black powder coating to prevent fin corrosion, as well as improve overall heat transfer to insure the lowest possible outlet temperatures.

The stock part consistently struggled to manage charge air temperatures, even under normal driving conditions. Our ECS Intercooler has been designed to improve on every restrictive element of the stock cooler, enhancing cooling efficiency by lowering intake air temperatures even compared to the R56 Cooper S aluminum intercooler, allowing you to continuously push your car without the detriment of heat soak!

This ECS Front Mount Intercooler Kit was designed, engineered, tested, and quality inspected by our Research and Development team at our Wadsworth, Ohio facility. We strive for the highest level of precision and quality through leading-edge product development technology including FARO laser scanning for reverse engineering and quality inspection, SolidWorks 3D CAD modeling, rapid prototyping utilizing our in-house 3D printer, and rigorous long-term product testing.

Our intercooler boots are longer than others available, ensuring a superior seal between the intercooler core and the inlet/outlet horns. This also provides more surface area for tightening with clamps.
