Engineered in-house, our torque plate is designed to provide a robust and uniform clamping surface between the flywheel and crankshaft across a range of BMW engine applications. Compatible with both factory and Turner performance flywheels, it helps prevent surface galling and ensures consistent torque distribution during installation.

The factory BMW S55 dual-mass flywheel is engineered with comfort in mind, catering to the luxury-oriented expectations of the brand’s driving experience. Its design focuses on dampening drivetrain vibrations, smoothing out gear transitions, and minimizing harshness during operation. However, this refinement costs valuable performance. The dual-mass flywheel adds a substantial 26.5 lbs of rotational mass to the drivetrain, which significantly hinders throttle response and makes rev-matching feel sluggish and disconnected. Moreover, dual-mass flywheels are notorious for being a weak link in modified or high-performance builds and can prove costly to replace when they inevitably fail.

Our Single-Mass Lightweight Flywheel Conversion addresses all of these shortcomings with a purpose-built, lightweight, single-mass design that prioritizes performance. Weighing in at only 18.5 lbs., this design significantly reduces rotational mass, allowing your S55 to achieve its true motorsport potential!

Do you have an early model transmission with the crank sensors on the bellhousing? Maybe you have a late 325is with the crank sensor on the front of the engine, or maybe you have a 1988 super ETA. No matter which E30 model you have, our flywheel is the perfect choice for you.

During the engineering process we encountered the full spectrum of M20 and flywheel combinations. Early cars with bellhousing crank sensors, late cars with front mounting crank sensors and even a super ETA. On this adventure we found both early and late single mass flywheels and even the dual mass that we thought for sure was just a myth. At first we were hesitant that we could make one flywheel to fit them all but with the persistence of our engineering team(fleet of E30 enthusiasts) we can proudly say our M20 flywheel does in fact fit all engine and transmission applications you can think of.

The technical core of this kit is our dual-geometry flywheel. By utilizing this specialized design, you can retain your engine-side stock starter while using the factory clutch and throw-out bearing from your donor transmission. To guarantee a fitment, we’ve included a precision drill guide for bellhousing alignment and a universal pilot bearing pin to simplify the installation process.

The factory dual-mass flywheel in W11-powered MINI Coopers was designed with comfort in mind—minimizing drivetrain vibration and delivering smoother shifts. However, this focus on refinement comes at a performance cost. The hefty 27 lbs. of rotational mass dulls throttle response, slows acceleration, and makes rev-matching more difficult. Dual-mass flywheels are also known to be less reliable in tuned or modified setups and can be expensive to replace when they fail.

ECS Tuning developed their Lightweight Single-Mass Flywheel to address these issues with a performance-focused alternative. Weighing in at just 17 lbs., this flywheel sheds nearly 10 lbs. of rotating mass compared to the OEM unit—transforming throttle response, acceleration, and clutch feel for a more engaging and dynamic driving experience.

**This flywheel is to match with a factory type or aftermarket NON Dampened clutch kit!** MINIs factory set up engagement is dampened by the dual mass flywheel. This will be a little more aggressive engagement of the clutch over the stock factory set up as they system in not dampened!! Can be used from daily to the track days.
