BMWs oil separator and crankcase ventilation system is excellent at what it does when properly maintained. Always inspect any visible hoses when you are under the hood and follow the manufacturers replacement schedule.
Being not only a connecting piece for the PCV line to the intake manifold but a heating element to prevent blockage it is possible to short out this piece. Easy to replace, prevent damage by getting a new piece today.
