Ohlins Racing has a long history dating back to 1976 of providing premium motorcycle and automotive suspension systems to numerous racing teams, individual racers, and OE brands such as BMW Motorsport, Audi, Lamborghini. Pagani, Ducati and Kawasaki. Over time, thanks to extensive R&D, testing, and tuning, their products have evolved into some of the highest quality suspension systems in the world, providing years of flawless operation on both the street and the track. Ohlins' latest automotive suspension system, the DFV (Dual Flow Valve) Road and Track Coilover Kit, has bridged the gap between comfortable stock suspension and track focused coilover kits. These kits provide a ride that glides over typical bumps and dips in the road, all without the typical hard rattle and harsh feel of usual coilovers, and turn in tight and maintain tire grip and traction in corners significantly better than stock suspension ever could. This is all thanks to the spring rate chosen and Ohlins and their signature Dual Flow Valve. The DFV maintains comfort and agility by giving the same characteristics for both rebound and compression, allowing the wheel and tire to maintain constant contact with the road/track for maximum control. The Dual Flow Valve works by controlling shock fluid flow based on resistance and impact velocity. This is controlled in both compression and rebound, giving the quick shock operation that helps maintain traction. At low shaft travel speeds, oil flows mostly through the shaft jet bleed. At higher shaft speeds, oil flows mostly through the compression/rebound ports in the piston. At very high shaft speeds, or during sudden accelerations from potholes or large bumps in the road, oil can then escape through the ports in the DFV, absorbing a large amount of energy that would otherwise throw off the balance and control of the vehicle and keeping the tire planted firmly on the ground. With all three compression and rebound ports working together according to pressure and shaft speed, the result is the notorious premium suspension feel that only Ohlins can offer. In addition to managing the rebound and compression control, coilovers must also properly address heat changes in the shock oil. As the shock is pushed harder and longer, the oil quickly heats up due to friction and compression, and the oils flow characteristics change. The hotter the oil is, the easier it is for it to travel through ports and valves. To prevent this typical fade in control, Ohlins has implemented a temperature controlled needle bleed valve system that will expand as temperatures rise, slowly increasing restriction in the fluids flow through the valve gap. This produces a consistent dampening rate that maintains the vehicle's suspension characteristics lap after lap, turn after turn, no matter how hard you push your suspension's capabilities. Features: DFV (Dual Flow Valve) Adjustable ride-height Fully rebuildable Corrosion salt spray tested (ISO 9227) Includes hardware and installation instructions 2 year Limited Warranty Specs: Recommended Front Spring Rating: 515 lbs/in ( 9 k/mm) Recommended Rear Spring Rating: 1087 lbs/in ( 19 k/mm) *Now available are optional EDC Cancellation Modules that will prevent any lights or issues with suspension control systems. Turner Motorsport reccommends purchasing these in addition to the suspension kit to get the most out of your Ohlins suspension system. When an E9X is lowered beyond the limits of just lowering springs, the rear wheels toe-in excessively. This excessive rear toe leads to premature wear, that many people attribute to an increase in negative camber. It has become a common belief that an extremely low vehicle will wear the tires wrong as a matter of consequence. It has become standard practice to go as low as you can and proceed to replace your tires every five to ten thousand miles. Whats more is that when the vehicle reaches a certain ride height, the factory arms become maxed out and there is no way to compensate and dial in the proper toe. You're left with an improperly aligned vehicle that is in effect worse off than it was with the stock suspension installed.

This is not only uneconomical but improper and unsafe. ECS Tuning is proud to offer a solution for this problem in the form of Rogue Engineering E9X adjustable rear toe arms. These arms allow for greater toe adjustment on vehicles that have been lowered with a coilover suspension. With the toe set properly the tires can contact the road properly this maximizes grip and minimizes wear.

Features:

  • 100% machined and anodized, 6061-T6 lightweight aluminum arms
  • High-strength, 3-piece, rod end (with carbon fiber reinforced, PTFE race) offers longer life for street compared to standard rod ends
  • SEALS-IT Rod end seals keep dirt, water, and other contaminants out
  • Rod ends feature grease fittings, to allow for rod end serviceability.
  • Lighter than stock!  (Stock is 875g, RE arms are 640g)
  • Extremely easy installation and adjustment (your alignment shop will LOVE you!)

Reinforces the strut towers against deformation while adding valuable triangulation to the front end for sharper, more predictable handling. Designed to prevent “mushrooming” and other distortion caused by rough roads or stiff suspension setups, these plates help maintain consistent suspension geometry by reducing unwanted chassis flex. The result? A more stable, confidence-inspiring front end under load. Strut tower plates are engineered to sit perfectly flush against the towers. If they don’t, it’s a sign the towers have experienced some deformation. In minor cases, this can often be corrected using a block of wood and a hammer to carefully restore the mounting surface.

An integral part on E46 M3 is the rear chassis "V-Brace" (BMW # 33312229899) found on all 2001-06 Convertibles and Coupe (including the CSL). This brace attaches to the outward points of the rear chassis and to the area near the rear subframe carrier. Since some of these vehicles are now over 20 years old, we have been seeing more and more of these start to rust away. We began studying the OEM part, curious as to why they were starting to rust away. We found that the two arms of the "V" are made from 38mm x 12mm (1.5" x 0.5") hollow square steel tubing, pressed ends and welded to a junction plate joining them with welds holding the arms at a specific angle. Since the arms are hollow, it helps keep the overall weight down, but does little to prevent corrosion since it is difficult to paint/coat a hollow tube. A Google search turned up very little other than used ones on eBay and new ones that turned out to be in short supply from the BMW dealer (not surprising since the car is over 20 years old). Determined to make something better, we began our engineering and R&D process. Goals of our Design; Modular design, since packaging and shipping something this large would probably be too expensive Costs would dictate material and manufacturing methods Lighter weight would be a secondary (or tertiary) goal, but also keeping in mind costs Corrosion resistant, so it would not rust from the inside out, like the OEM version After weighing the material, manufacturing and cost options, we decided to go with a fully CNC'd ACQ 6061-T6 aluminum assembly. The concept is to machine two identical arms (one part number) and have them joined with a "junction plate". The arms would be secured to the plate with Grade 8.8 grade hardware and the entire assembly would include replacement Grade 10.9 hardware to replace the original OEM hardware (which is probably original). Details of our Design; CNC'd 6061-T6 construction, secured with Grade 8.8 socket head cap screws. Included are replacement Grade 10.9 hardware to fit in the factory locations. About 4 lbs. fully assembled weight (vs. 6.25 lbs for OEM), about a 35% weight savings Anodized gray finish Modular design allows for one arm to be removed in case of exhaust removal requirement. Included in the Kit Two (2) arms of the brace assembly (they are idential) One (1) junction plate One (1) red spacer (this goes BETWEEN the brace and the chassis!) Two (2) blue spacers (these goes BETWEEN the brace and the chassis!) Four (4), M10 socket head cap screws Three (3), M10 flanged hex head bolts It is recommended that the holes used to mount the V-brace onto the car be cleaned before installation by running an M10x1.5 tap to clean each of the holes.
