CSF Oil Cooler

Keeping your BMW's engine oil temperatures in check is extremely important. Temperature fluctuations in engine oil can lead to excessive wear and tear on critical internal components such as the pistons, turbos, rod bearings, main bearings, and more. Many BMWs come from the factory with a stock oil cooler, but these often are damaged from rocks, dirt, and other road debris and must be replaced to maintain reliability and consistent oil temperatures. For those looking to track their vehicle more than a handful of times a year, we recommend upgrading your oil cooler to an aftermarket alternative that allows for greater heat dissipation and increased oil reserves. This will help keep oil temps low even after extended track sessions, keeping you on the track longer and reducing downtime.

CSF has been at the forefront of pushing the performance limits of the S63 engine with its Twin Charge Air Coolers. Today, many M5, M6, and M8 models are exceeding 1000HP, but with greater power comes increased heat. As power levels rise, so do oil temperatures, with some owners experiencing temperatures surpassing 240°F (115°C) during intense track sessions. As these M cars continue to age and power thresholds are pushed further, factory cooling systems are struggling to keep up. To address this challenge, CSF partnered with Carbahn to develop a direct-fit solution for both platforms. Engineered to manage the extreme heat generated by Carbahn’s new S63 Stroker Kit, this oil cooler is designed for peak performance and reliability. But enhanced performance isn’t the only reason to upgrade. Many F1X and F9X owners have had to replace their oil coolers due to leaks and damage, primarily caused by their exposed mounting position—a problem worsened by lowered suspension setups. A stronger, more durable design was needed to resolve these issues. Whether your M5, M6, or M8 is a daily driver, weekend cruiser, or dedicated track machine, upgrading the oil cooler is a smart investment. Tuned S63s, especially those with upgraded turbos, produce significantly more heat, making efficient cooling even more critical. Excessive oil temperatures can quickly trigger limp mode and, in extreme cases, cause catastrophic engine failure. CSF’s new High-Performance Engine Oil Cooler isn’t just about optimizing performance—it’s a preventative upgrade that helps avoid costly repairs and extends your engine’s lifespan.

The E36 Euro Spec Oil Cooler is exactly what it sounds like. E36 M3’s in Europe came equipped with an oil cooler that mounted under the radiator and was a popular upgrade for E36 owners in the US. Unfortunately, BMW discontinued the oil cooler and they have become harder and harder to find. BimmerWorld reached out to CSF to design a replacement unit that would fit exactly like the factory unit but perform even better. The original oil cooler used Tube and Fin construction. While this is acceptable for cooling performance, it is not a very robust design. CSF chose to go with a Bar and Plate construction to improve durability. While there is plenty of ground clearance, the cooler is low enough to see some potential abuse on the track. CSF wanted to offer that extra durability of a Bar and Plate cooler for track enthusiasts and those running their car on the lower side. The CSF Oil Cooler was designed to be a 1 to 1 replacement for the OEM unit in terms of fitment. This means it uses the same OE mounting points, hardware, and lines. For a Euro E36 M3 or US Z3M, the oil cooler will be a drop-in fit installation. E36 models that were not equipped with the oil cooler from the factory will need the BimmerWorld Euro Oil Cooler Bracket Kit which can attach to an OEM spec Radiator or the CSF #3054.
