This brings our expertise with developing the first equal-length mid-pipe from the F8X M cars and the G80/G82 M cars. It provides the advantages of an equal-length exhaust system with a smoother high-rev sound. BMW provided an equal-length solution with the crossover pipe from the short downpipe. However, they overcompensated and made the length of the driver's side exhaust longer than the passenger side - this equal length midpipe corrects the passenger side exhaust length, giving the G87 a true equal length and smoother sound.

The left side downpipe on the S58 connects to a "crossover" pipe that runs beneath the transmission and links up with the mid pipes on the left side. Unfortunately, the stock shape of the crossover pipe is oval to create enough clearance underneath the transmission. This alteration from a round tube to an oval causes turbulence within the pipe, leading to a restriction in exhaust flow. CTS Turbo has designed a crossover pipe to eliminate this turbulence that is created by the factory system and ditched the oval design for a round circular design for increased flow and horsepower!

The Active Autowerke F87 Mid Pipe was specifically designed to eliminate the highly restrictive nature of the S55 – thus creating optimal exhaust flow and drastically improving performance. In addressing the annoying sound ( described by many like that of a weed-eater ) we needed to better understand the issue. After much research and testing we discovered the synchronization of the Turbos as the main factor in the sound. The solution was a single mid pipe which eliminated much of the annoying sound. The next challenge was making a large 3.5" pipe ( needed for optimum performance ) fit without ground clearance issues - thus the oval pipe. Engineered for an exact fit on the new BMW M2 Competition, the difference in power with this mid pipe will be noticeable the moment it is installed!
