Turbo inlet pipes serve two very distinct, and differing, purposes. On one hand, the optimization of a turbo inlet pipe will encourage better turbo efficiency and responsiveness by allowing the turbo to ingest more air by way of an unobstructed and larger volume flow path. On the other, you have a more visceral benefit that some may argue is equally important than that of efficiency/flow optimization --- increased sound. No matter which of the distinct purposes is favored, Dinan will deliver on both. Regardless of application, a Dinan turbo inlet replaces the weak, and failure-prone, plastic factory inlet with a more robust carbon fiber one. CNC machined fittings are utilized to ensure proper fitment and guarantee installation as a direct replacement to the OEM inlet. Beyond material and fitment however are the improvements to the characteristics of the primary element in the system, the pipe itself. The stock turbo inlet has incorporated additional features (multiple in some cases) that introduce flow restrictions and turbulence while also reducing turbo noises. All of which are unwanted but easily rectified by removing the various resonators and enlarging (and optimizing) the path for a more uniform flow. The result is an inlet that delivers not only more air and allows the turbo to be more efficient (work less) but also provides the oft-desired amplification to the turbo induction soundtrack. This Boost Leak Tester kit mounts inside both of the flexible intake hoses that lead to your turbo's compressor inlet flanges. You will need to remove the air box (or your aftermarket air filters) to expose the 2 intake pipes. Install the testers in each pipe and pressurize the system using the tire schrader with your tire inflation tool. The kit comes with the necessary caps to block the diverter valve return flanges on the intake pipes, also a cap to block the breather line at the bakc of the valve cover. Once the kit is installed, use compressed air to charge the system and you will see that both gauges read the compressor pressure you are filling with. You'll be able to test the turbo to the motor checking all leak points in between, including intercooler, clamped connections, intake manifold, divertor valves and the many random potential leak points. Note: Testing at the intake pipe, you may hear noise coming from the o-ring (at ~12 psi test pressure) that seals the intake pipe to the turbo inlet from debris. This is not a boost leak, these are not meant to see boost and not intended to be perfectly sealed, however hearing this hissing may be mis-diagnosed as a leak. In this case reduce the pressure. If no obvious leaks are heard in any other location, the test is complete and there are no significant leaks The gauge on the boost leak tester allows the user to: apply a safe amount of pressure to prevent injury or damage to the charge pipes or engine read how fast the system holds and bleeds air after removing the air source give a good comparison of compressor outlet air Vs. boost test air while pressurizing. Looking to get the most efficient turbocharger operation out of your N54 powered BMW? The best way to do this is to remove all restrictions from the inlet, and charge tract. The factory charge pipe has a very small 1″ opening and a poorly designed Y section that couples the two banks into one before entering the intercooler. This VTT N54 Aluminum outlet gets rid of those restrictions and provides a full 1.5″ from the turbochargers to a smooth Y transition into a 2.5″ outlet to fit most aftermarket intercoolers. Do not be fooled by companies trying to sell you oversized 2″ charge pipes, these are not going to pick up any power, and will kill velocity. The smallest diameter you can run while still providing adequate flow is always best for flow velocity and reducing time to TQ. This outlet is powder-coated black for a durable finish. The outlet is available in V-band connection for Stock, Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 2+, any aftermarket turbo that uses the stock connection (RB, Pure, TTE, ETC.
