New for the F8X-generation M2, M3, and M4 is a low-slung, horizontally mounted oil cooler designed to harness underbody aerodynamics. By placing the cooler in a low-pressure zone, this design enhances airflow efficiency and achieves sustainable oil temperatures for stock and street-driven cars. However, the compact core is quickly overwhelmed on modified or track-driven vehicles. Its exposed mounting position also leaves it highly susceptible to impact damage, so a minor scrape or piece of road debris can mean a costly full replacement. Our engineering team set out to solve the shortcomings of the factory design by developing a larger, higher-capacity core that delivers measurable gains in thermal stability. NEW, updated design allows for more applications! The TMS Oil Cooler Fitting kit allows much more flexibility in the routing of oil cooler lines. Standard oil coolers utilize �hard lines� which can cause fitment issues for cars with superchargers, Accusumps, or other aftermarket performance parts. Our kit replaces the oil cooler hard lines with two TMS engineered -10 AN fittings, mounting bracket, and O-rings. Flexible braided hoses can then be run to the oil cooler which eliminates routing issues from supercharges, intakes, and other components. The brackets are CNC machined stainless steel and the -10 AN fittings are lightweight aluminum.

BMW's newest high-performance powertrain—the S58B30—has proven to be an extremely durable platform built to last! Unfortunately, its factory oil cooler location is an egregious weak link in an otherwise bulletproof oiling system. Positioned just inches above the ground, the engine oil cooler is vulnerable to damage from debris, potholes, parking blocks, and other unavoidable road hazards. A single impact has the potential to rupture the cooler’s delicate aluminum fins and tubes, resulting in rapid oil loss and catastrophic low oil pressure. The only factory protection for this part is a flimsy undertray.
To safeguard the oil cooler, we've engineered a high-strength Aluminum Skid Plate for the F97 X3M and F98 X4M. Designed for peak performance and protection, our skid plate acts as a shield, preventing damage to the oil cooler while maintaining proper cooling efficiency.
Crafted from 4GA (4.83mm) 5052 aluminum, our skid plate delivers a perfect balance of strength and weight savings. Unlike the fragile factory plastic belly pan, our design forms a protective barrier from the front bumper to the front subframe, shielding your oil cooler and other fragile componentry from unexpected impacts. Its sturdy one-piece design enhances underbody rigidity without adding unnecessary weight over the front axle.
At Turner Motorsport, we believe protection shouldn't come at the cost of performance. Our engineers aimed to outperform the factory undertray design with laser-cut air channels that optimize airflow through the oil cooler. While located under the engine, the oil cooler receives its fresh airflow from the front air dam. Air flows through the lower front grille, into the oil cooler core, and out of the skid plate. The factory belly pan allows air to bypass the core, leading to inefficient cooling and mediocre airflow at speed. Our design allows for efficient heat dissipation by incorporating flared air channels, which guide cool air through the oil cooler and deflect road debris before it can reach the fragile core.

The TMS E36 Stage 2 Oil Cooler Line Upgrade Kit is an ideal alternative to the factory oil cooler lines, with multiple added benefits. In combination with our TMS AN-10 Oil Line Adaptor Kit (Part # TEN9910200), installing the TMS E36 Stage 2 Oil Cooler Line Upgrade saves you time and money. Unlike factory lines, the TMS E36 Stage 2 Oil Cooler Line Upgrade can work with vehicles equipped with superchargers or racing alternator pulleys. The TMS oil cooler lines now sit safely away from any moving parts like pulleys and serpentine belts. Our lines are made from HTP (High Temperature Polymer Braided), a synthetic line with multiple advantages over rubber or stainless lines.
Keep your S55 running cooler, longer. The factory oil cooler thermostat on the S55 waits until the oil reaches roughly 110°C (230°F) before sending it to the cooler. By then, the cooling system is already playing catch-up, especially on track days, spirited canyon runs, hot summer traffic, or tuned cars making well beyond stock power.
Our S55 Billet Oil Cooler Thermostat design addresses this issue at the source. Our proprietary low-temperature 70°C (158°F) thermostat routes oil through the cooler much earlier, so temperatures stay controlled before they climb instead of being pulled back down after the fact. The result is more consistent oil temperatures, more stable performance lap after lap, and less heat stress on bearings, turbochargers, and other critical components.
Unlike thermostat delete or “always open” bypass solutions, our kit uses a real working thermostat. Your engine still warms up properly on cold starts, which protects internal friction surfaces and keeps the oil at the right temperature for daily driving in any climate. Housing the thermostat is a CNC-machined billet aluminum cover, which is much stronger than the factory piece and looks great under the hood. Our thermostat solution is compatible with both factory and -10 AN oil cooler lines when used in conjunction with an AN Line Adapter (see T#59331100).
Heat is the enemy of lap times and engine longevity. BMW calibrated the factory oil thermostat on the N54, N55, and S55 platforms for rapid warm-up and emissions targets, running oil temperatures uncomfortably hot under prolonged load. When you’re pushing full throttle down the straight or stacking laps in midsummer, you need thermal headroom long before factory thresholds are reached.
The Turner Motorsport Oil Cooler Thermostat Housing drops your thermostat threshold to 70°C, circulating oil through the cooler early to build a buffer against heat saturation. This oil cooler system is race tested and proven to outflow the euro M3 oil filter housing. Additionally, this particular system uses a sealing mechanism to direct the oil flow through the cooler lines and then through the oil filter. Other cooler caps do not provide this seal and therefore the external oil coolers and lines act as a "balloon". The lines and cooler are pressurized, but oil does not flow through them. Flowing oil means it is being cooled and not just acting as an external reservoir.
Flow testing reveals that the oil cooler cap will outflow the Euro M3 Oil Filter Housing by more than 80% at the same, pressure, RPM, and oil temperature. In the upper RPM range, there is nearly a 100% improvement in flow from the RallyRoad oil cooler cap when compared to the Euro M3 oil filter housing. This is a massive improvement over OE and is a worthwhile upgrade, especially in engines that see severe duty.
