The crankcase oil vent system on the N52/N54 is one of its weakest and cheaply designed systems. We see crankcase vent issues on even stock engines but with more boost the problems are exponential. This Vargas upgraded PCV valve, and an oil catch can, are what the N54 engine needs and may alleviate most of your oil and boost leak issues. The PCV valve is supposed to let oil either return to the oil pan or pass through the intake manifold and get burned up in the combustion chamber. However, BMW used a weak plastic vent valve that doesn't seal well when under boost. Instead of closing and venting the oil out of the intake, it's forced through this valve and into the intake and coating your valves with oil residue and carbon. Most boost equals more oil forcing its way by. This upgraded N54 PCV valve uses higher grade materials, including aluminum, to provide a better seal and prevent oil from entering the intake. It's an easy install and a must-have item when considering any turbo work.

The E90 330i had the highest horsepower out of the N52-powered vehicles. The reason for this was while the 128i, 325i, 328i, 525i, and 528i received a single-stage manifold, the 330i was gifted a 3-stage manifold. A 3-stage manifold consisted of 2 DISA valves that would divert air to the cylinders that needed it. With more air going to the appropriate cylinders and fuel adjustments by the ECU, this valve system helps extract the most power from the N52. The crankcase vent valve (CVV) holds and releases oil vapors that build up in the engine. It's the same type of system previously known as a PCV valve and the same deficiencies exist. Over time, the CVV will become saturated and clogged with oil. When this happens, the oil-rich vapors from the engine will back up into the intake tract and eventually into the combustion chamber. The oil added to the gasoline/air mix will cause misfires, carbon deposits, rough running, and blue smoke out the tailpipe. Replacing the CVV every 70,000 miles will ensure the correct and clean ventilation of oil vapor.

Replacement of the CVV can be done without removing the intake manifold. But replacing it during an M50 Manifold upgrade is the perfect time.

A bad DISA valve can cause a variety of issues, from a loud racket in the engine bay, hesitation at low rpm and a rough idle with lean codes. If the valve is making a loud noise, we recommend replacing it as soon as possible. It is possible for the pin holding the flap to be sucked into the motor causing serious damage. Very easy to replace, just need to undo the 4 bolts holding it to the intake manifold. Includes new mounting hardware

Vargas Turbo has released their very own BMW B58 vacuum/boost adapter. These go inline with the intake manifold fitting and provide a full boost/vacuum signal from the manifold. This fitting adds two 1/8" NPT bungs to accept any fitting that has 1/8" NPT threads. You can choose three configuration options: Fitting by itself Fitting with one 1/4" barb and one plug Fitting with two 1/4" barbs Once installed it tucks perfectly under your engine cover. These are perfect for running your PI switch off manifold pressure, which is much more accurate than the charge pipe, and they are also great for BOVs running the proper size line without having to drill a hole in your manifold. These do space out any sensors etc giving inaccurate readings like some of the other brands do.
