It's no secret that N55 BMW turbo motors can suffer from oil control problems causing oil to blow through and coat the intercooler and charge piping, gunking up intake valves and the VANOS system, lowering the effective octane, and generally degrading engine performance. The higher your boost levels the more apparent these problems become. The solution to this problem has finally arrived. The BMS oil catch can. While there are other catch cans on the market they all fall short in various areas. Some are mounted on the hot/turbo side of the motor preventing proper vapor condensation. Others utilize hoses that are too small and runs that are too long to allow proper PCV ventilation causing internal motor/ring sealing issues. Some have insufficient or no internal baffle system while others have internal baffles systems that are too restrictive. Some even bypass the PCV system all together venting crankcase gas and odor to the atmosphere. Most are simply repackaged oil catch cans from smaller / lower power motors shoehorned into place in the turbo BMW engine bay. To solve these problems BMS designed their oil catch can kit from the ground up specifically for the turbo BMW application. It features 100% CNC machining with zero welding for a precision fit and long life. The can itself is guaranteed for the life of the vehicle. The hoses exceed the OEM PCV piping in diameter and that flow rate is maintained throughout the entire oil catch can ensuring no excessive crankcase pressure buildup. The BMS OCC retains the factory fully closed loop PCV operation preventing any PCV vapor from leaking to the atmosphere. The mounting locations are selected to minimize the line length, allow more efficient operation, and retain a stealth look. Install takes around 20 minutes, includes all required hardware, and is 100% reversible. Simply unscrew the base of the can or use the drain plug to safely dispose of captured oil with the rest of your used motor oil during oil changes. Made in the USA. Oil venting and circulation continues to be a problem on BMW engines and now even more so on the turbocharged N54 and N55 engines. The existing stock system does a very poor job of separating fluid and vapor and this leads to an oily film or even small pools of oil throughout the turbos and intake. We're seeing a lot more 135 and 335 cars with drivability and performance issues because oil has sneaked by the ring seals and is coating the intake piping, intercooler, intake valves, and other critical areas. The problem is worsened with higher boost levels. Oil is excellent for lubricating moving parts but terrible when it gets into the combustion chamber, effectively lowering the octane rating and reducing performance. Our own shop has gone the extra step and offers media blasting of the intake valves to strip away the oily buildup we have seen.

Our shop also strongly recommends an oil catch can be installed in the line for the crankcase vent. The oil catch can traps oil as it leaves the valve cover and holds it in a canister. This catch can is located on the cooler side of the engine where the oil will condense easier and stay in the can. Whatever minimal vapors are left over in the oil is then vented back through the canister and into the intake where it is safe to be burned up in the engine or recirculated back through the system again. This is the way the system was designed! At each oil change simply unscrew the canister and empty the trapped oil with your regular used oil. The Burger Tuning oil catch can is the best we have seen so far. Installing one of these will avoid costly repairs in the future and help maintain your boost and performance. It's one of the smartest modifications you can make because it demonstrates a well-thought out tuning strategy and care for the condition of your engine.

The BMS Oil Catch Can is made from aluminum and with a stealthy black anodized finish. It installs on the cooler side of the engine with a dedicated bracket and new oversized vent lines. The location is key as heat will evaporate the oil and send too much vapor back into the engine (where cooler air will turn it back into fluid). The BMS OCC also has a factory-like appearance. Since BMS designed their catch can from scratch they can guarantee it fits and performs correctly for the N54/N55 engine, unlike other catch cans on the market that are poorly retrofitted from other applications and under-sized for the N54 engine.

Note: Since the crankcase vent system is considered part of the overall emissions system, installing this may be a violation of local, state, and federal laws. While exemptions are made for track/race and off-road use, check with your local state inspection facility on using this in street-driven vehicles

BMS Oil Catch Can Features:
+ Increases air intake efficiency
+ Promotes engine longevity
+ Double-baffled design allows excellent air/oil separation
+ Large In/Out ports (no tapered sizes that slow flow)
+ Stealth mounting on cooler side of engine bay (promotes condensation of oil to vapor)
+ Anodized black lightweight aluminum
+ N54 version mounts out of sight under the cowl
+ Made in USA with a lifetime guarantee

Carrillo rods are your number one option for performance connecting rods! If you are looking to upgrade your N20 engine to handle greater power, we highly recommend these Pro-H connecting rods. Upgrading connecting rods in your engine can bring several benefits, particularly if you're looking to enhance performance, reliability, and overall durability. Here are some reasons why you might consider investing in upgraded connecting rods: Increased Strength: Upgraded connecting rods are often made from stronger materials, such as forged steel or titanium, compared to stock rods. This increased strength helps withstand higher levels of stress and load, making them suitable for high-performance applications. Improved Durability: Enhanced materials and manufacturing processes contribute to improved durability, reducing the risk of connecting rod failure, especially in high-stress situations. This is crucial for engines that undergo frequent high-speed or high-stress conditions, such as in racing or heavy-duty applications. Higher RPM Capability: Upgraded connecting rods are designed to handle higher engine RPM (revolutions per minute) without succumbing to fatigue or deformation. This is beneficial for those seeking increased horsepower and torque at higher engine speeds. Reduced Weight: Some upgraded connecting rods are engineered to be lighter while maintaining strength, contributing to a lower overall rotating mass in the engine. This can result in quicker revving, improved throttle response, and better overall performance. Enhanced Precision: Upgraded rods often undergo more precise machining processes, ensuring tight tolerances and improved balance. This precision can lead to better engine stability and reduced vibration, ultimately extending the life of engine components. Compatibility with High-Performance Builds: If you're planning on modifying your engine for increased horsepower through methods like turbocharging or supercharging, upgraded connecting rods become essential. They provide the necessary strength and reliability to handle the increased stresses associated with forced induction. Prevention of Catastrophic Failures: Upgrading connecting rods can act as a preventive measure against catastrophic engine failures. The improved strength and durability reduce the risk of a connecting rod breaking, which could lead to severe engine damage. Specifications: CC(in): 5.683 CC(mm): 144.35 Style: PRO-H Bolt Size: 3/8 Bolt Type: WMC Pin Width(in): 0.822 Pin Width(mm): 20.88 Big Width(in): 0.822 Bid Width(mm): 20.88 Big Bore(in): 2.1112 Big Bore(mm): 53.62 Pin Size: 22mm QTY: Set of 4 Founded by Fred Carrillo in 1963, Carrillo Connecting Rods was established with an unwavering commitment to uncompromising standards in manufacturing. Fred recognized that the relentless pursuit of speed demanded an equally fervent dedication to the quality of components. This foundational philosophy remains as strong today as it was at the inception of Carrillo in 1963. At CP-Carrillo, quality and pride are inseparable. The process of crafting a CP-Carrillo rod transcends mere forging, production targets, and shipping deadlines. The evolution of connecting rod design has become a collaborative effort involving skilled specialists. Each connecting rod is a precision symphony, with material specialists, forging experts, production craftsmen, design engineers, and engine specialists contributing their expertise and artistry. Customer feedback plays a pivotal role in our continuous product improvement. The close interaction between customers, engineering, and manufacturing fosters the most effective rod designs, enhancing accuracy and service—a value that becomes apparent during your engine build. CP-Carrillo's dimensional integrity stands unparalleled, setting a standard of excellence in the industry.
