JXB Performance Guibos and Flex Discs

Find BMW driveshaft and axle shaft parts, including flex discs (aka: the guibo) is a vibration dampener mounted on the back of the transmission. The flex disc acts as a buffer between the transmission's output shaft and the driveshaft leading back to the car's differential. Visual inspection is the only way to tell if the disc is beginning to wear. Cars with worn discs will notice a harsh vibration when starting from a stop and the disc should be replaced (along with the center support bearing) ASAP.

The original center support bearing carrier from the factory employs a thin layer of rubber to secure the driveshaft, minimizing movement to reduce noise and vibrations in the vehicle's cabin. However, this design struggles to maintain the bearing's alignment under load, leading to gradual sagging and misalignment of the driveshaft. This, in turn, results in play during gear shifts and throttle application. Even in well-maintained vehicles, the initial rubber bushing can deteriorate and turn brittle, often developing cracks within 5-10 years. When this deterioration occurs, it can lead to heightened vibrations, clunking noises, and increased stress on the bearing. Additionally, replacing the stock carrier is a challenging task because it is permanently connected to the center support bearing, necessitating specialized tools for replacement.
